The new server is now up and running. If you are reading this you are already at the new server @ www.allaboutsymbian.com. Read the full story for more details.
Following the appalling performance of the old servers last week a letter was recieved by Dextra (the person who provided the old hosting ) stating the site was using too many resources (apparently we were sharing the server with lots and lots of other people), and so if we didn't shut down the high intensity scripts they would pull the plug. Because there weren't any scripts I could change (aside from shutting the forums altogether) and because it would have been unfortunate if Dextra had lost his account beause of the site I decided to move. I had been thinking about this for a while, but the plan got moved up fast!
The name has chnaged to reflect the fact that the site about symbian rather than any one specific release of the OS. The 7650 and 92x0 are ER6 machines, but the P800 is not and we certainly want to cover that machine! It should also hopefully make the site more recognisable for what it is.
I'd like to apologise for the problems you will have on the site, but moving is always a bit traumatic and problematic. If you can let me know via the forums if you find something wrong it would be great.
Thank you to everyone who has expressed their support in the last 24 hours - it kept me going at 3am last night when I was trying to sort things out 😊. I'm now paying for hosting and may be looking to seek donations a bit more actively, but we'll see. The good news is there is no bandwith limit (so long as I pay for it...!), and some extra features for the server. It should also be a lot quicker for everyone.
Thanks
Rafe
Great to have you back, the name change is also a bonus, I'm sure I expresses the thoughts of all your regular visitors in thanking you for your efforts getting the new site up and running. Good work 😃

At last human friendly domain name! Congrats!
And the domain name is clever too. Rafe, prepare to be flooded with big traffic (over 20 GB monthly) because Nokia 3650 😉 is coming to the market soon... 8)[/quote]
Yeah it was about time to get a better domain. Thanks for your advice in this direction jpzr. Yeah hopefully we can handle the strain when it hits now! I think we'll probably see are the bandwith double from the 25GB it doing now.

Thanks! 😊 I'm glad you like the new name.
Staying up till 4 last night suddenly seems more worthwhile 😉
Rafe,
I am glad you did it, and the site is functional.
It was a week without the most interesting site to visit from office, home, free week-ends..
TheName is also great.
Regarding the bandwith money isue, I think this will "force" 😃 you to seek for adverisers onto the site. This will be good for everybody.
The site is working 2-3 times faster for the time being.
No problems until now. Count on everybody that we will feed back.
Wish you allaboutbestthings. 😮
the site is faster over here on my end... using dial-up modem, it's faster now!
cool new domain name! feels like home.
keep up d good work Rafe!
Finally getting the site and forums today. Takes a long time for it to filter through doesn't it.
Anyway, I was so upset about the site being down, I went and ordered a Palm Tungsten T.
As luck would have it, the next day, I hear that Nokia will sonn have a replacement for the 9210i in the works.
Zuber
Good to see you back Zuber (even if you have defected).
Sorry about the time for the DNS to filter through - nothing to be done about it I'm afraid.
