Orange 6630 and Connection settings

I have just recently purchased a 6630 on an Orange student monthly contract. I get 300mins, 1000txts and 50% off landline calls after my mins have all been used up. So far, so good! 😊

As soon as I got my phone the first thing I did was remove most of the pre-installed s**t that came bundled with the phone and mem card. Then I installed a few apps..

PuTTY for Symbian OS 6
FExplorer
RepliGo
Journey II (A VERY clever game!!)

Symantec Security Beta... (Unsure about this one... what do you guys think?? Virii threat real or not??)

And finally AgileMessenger, which looks amazing.. and i managed to get working... ONCE.

Which leads me to my question.

I have 3 connection access points on my mobile...

1. Orange GPRS WAP
2. Orange Internet
3. Orange MMS

Now i have no idea what the difference is.. However they both use "Packet Data" as the data bearer...

Could someone please explain!?

Thanks

Congrats Use Orange Internet for internet connections.

I think you have 1GB free for 3 months? And 100MB after that?

Yer, it is something ridiculous like that...

However, agile is still being wierd..

When I select Orange Internet as the connection it should use, it connects to Orange I-net, and then tries, and tries, and tries to connect.. but fails after a long time..

Also which version of Agile should I be using? since there is no 6630 version?

try a search i'm not using that. I am sure others have figured it out.

Internet works fine for me. Remember phone their 3G helpline if you have problems like trouble connecting.

There's alot of great software so dont be afris to get your hands dirty.

From what I understood when upgrading to 3G the 1GB promotion is running for 3 months and then the 3g Packs will revert to oranges 4MB a month tarrif with standard GPRS pricing.... quite what there going to be offering after the promotion im not sure.

The difference between the APNs is mainly cost based. Orange MMS has all oranges MMS settings like the MMSC server address and allows no access other than to this address. There is no cost to access this other than the cost of the data your send as an MMS.

Back in days when GPRS first came out orange used to offer two types of GPRS. "OrangeWAP" or Orange GPRS was restricted to port 80 and only allowed Wap Pages and Web Pages to be viewed. They used to have a pack that allowed unlimited wap surfing. It alos ensured you couldent use the Prromotion to access Email and MSN on smartphones etc.

Orange Internet was the fully unrestricted one that allowed full port access for email and msn etc on the SPVs and the 7650 etc.

Now they have done away with the Web and Wap definitions and just have GPRS they have unrestricted the Orange GPRS (orangewap) so both of them are now effectivly the same. They have both too avoid confusion and having loads of people ring up because they have the wrong profile selected or their phones only support one profile and have the orangewap settings.

I was going to say that once I checked out the connection settings they looked identical.

And today for some reason Agile Started working again... no idea why... but im not complaining 😉

Guys i know i am way off the subject here but i am at my wits end with picodrive. Had it for the 6600 which worked the best but now that i have my nice new 6630 it causes problems. I just want it to work so much. I've been trying and trying here in work cause i have no net access at home and am getting nowhere. Can anyone please tell me of a picodrive i can download with full options (Know there is no sound) without having to place a system file on pc suite then copying all in cause that isn't even working..........hope i'm not talking the brown stuff here. I would be so happy and appreciative if someone could pleeeeeeease help me.

Under Settings/ Connection, what does the Packet Data menu and the "when available" "when needed" settings refer to on the 6630?

When available: the phone attaches to the default access point when ever it is available (usually = always attached) even if no application is needing/requesting to.

When needed: the phone attaches to the network when an application needs to and disconnects when the application exits.

Probably some. Not much, if there is no data transfer. Advantage is that apps connect slightly faster. Doesn't usually matter, so I keep it at "when needed" (and since I use different access points for different things/apps).
