Rifts official website launches

Nokia has launched the website for their flagship RPG Rifts at www.rifts-promiseofpower.com. The most elaborate N-Gage game site since Pathway To Glory, it contains many tantalising glimpses at what's to come. The developers' blog indicates Rifts has just reached the beta stage so we should be seeing some more in-depth previews appearing soon.

Perhaps most tantalising though is what isn't revealed: there will be a brand new character class (to keep fans of the original pen & paper Rifts RPG happy) and "a variety of game modes for N-Gage Arena" all of which will be unveiled at E3 in May. It's interesting to note that, like Catan and Worms World Party, Rifts is a turn-based N-Gage game that has been delayed by about 6 months. Catan and Worms were both delayed so live Arena multiplayer could be added, and perhaps something similar is planned for Rifts alongside the already announced "postal chess"-style multiplayer mode.

Worms is due for release any day now, possibly they're holding back "something" for E3...

Could be, could be... a totally online Rifts would be quite lovely. But I think the "message based" multiplayer could be a surprise hit, it could be the gaming equivalent of text messaging (and we all know how addictive that has become, at least in Europe and Asia).
