hi Guys new software has been released for Nokia 6630 version 4.03.18
carphone warehouse uk still can not upgrade the software yet as we are still waiting for the jigs to come from nokia.......
New software for the nokia 6630
can anyone verify this ? thanks
Just received my new 6630 on 3 yesterday. I can confirm that the firmware info on mine reads-
V 4.03.18
04-03-05
RM-1
I have noticed that the bug with the blurring of wallpaper images is still there. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a size of image that it will not try to scale. I people claiming on some pages that 174 * 144 works nut I've tried that and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?
is your phone locked to a network????
Alas, yes. It's locked to 3.
Mmmh, that's interesting.
What's the difference between a locked phone and an unlocked one? Do the phones locked to a specific network have custom versions of the firmware?
Got in touch with local nokia service centre and they still usin v3.45.113. Told em about v4.03.18 and they are now in process of downloadin it from nokia. Said would be ready for flash 2moro.
Nice one pchana. :icon14:
Don't suppose ya got list of mods in v4 do ya.
Wondered if sorted out bluetooth connection to official nokia carkit. At mo it's hit and miss, and ya can forget about voice activated dialling. Works once then disconnects phone. Real nice when ya not allowed to touch phone while drivin.
I brought a Nokia 6630 off Orange. Can i upgrade my firmware?
I've never done this before. Carphone Warehouse have Nokia centers in them right? So i just go there and ask for a firmware upgrade?
yep you should be able to
what are the list of changes in the new 6630 fw ?
hi here is the full changes in firmware
This firmware is only for 3 UK and Orange France.
Just got phone back from nokia centre with same firmware as went in. Said v4 not been approved by Orange UK yet and to try back in about a week.
At least now know its on its way
how can you check the firmware version on your phone? thanks
On main screen(not menu) type *#0000#
this firmware is for all generic 6630's
Hi Guys,
I got a Vodafone upgrade to a Nokia 6630 last week. The firmware version is v 2.39.15 11-11-04.
I was shocked to say the least. Are there any known problems with this firmware version?
Also would be interested to hear from anyone who has tried OggPlayer ( http://symbianoggplay.sourceforge.net/S60MMF.html) on a 6630. Ogg files are similar to MP3 files except it produces higher quality sound with a high file compression and encoders for all OS's are readily availble also its an open file format, MP3 is owned by a German company called the Frauenhofer Institute and will probably look to collect encoding revenues from MP3 encoding.
Also has anyone managed to get Gnokii on Linux talking to a Nokia 6630?
Although I have downloaded the very latest Nokia PC Suite Version 6.5 which came out on the 5th of April it doesn't support sending SMS texts from a PC keyboard (this seems to be a specific restriction to Symbian OS). This is a real pain as it was the main reason for using Nokia PC suite. I am hoping that gnokii (or something similar) would address this deficiency. Also I have a personal preferance for Linux anyway as it's a better OS. I would be really interested to hear about other users experiences.

hey it works for me try 610x529 keeps text clarity and is smooth on wallpaper, although doesn't look good in you image viewer. hope it works.
the new fw dont have any major changes.....
I use Oggplayer on my 6630 and it works superb. Its much better than the built-in MP3 player. Good sound, filesystem, simple to use and playes .ogg, .mp3 and .aac files. You can also set a new(or make your own) skin...

When is this latest firmware available in a generic format? Any Ideas?

Guys how can i download this software and install it on my N6630..
Thanks!
supersam wrote:Guys how can i download this software and install it on my N6630..Thanks!
you cannot dl and install this software (actually it's firmware) yourself, you'll have to go to your nearest nokia servicecentre (check nokia.com for it) and have it updated there. Chances are they will ship it to nokia to let the software update being done over there, like they did with mine. Still waiting for it (takes aproximately 10 days weekend days included)
