VOIP software for 9500??

Hmmmm
Lovely to be connected via Wifi, getting emails & browsing the net at no cost.....
But does anyone know whether an application like Scype had been created for the 9500 to give it VOIP, therefore cheap / free calls & not having to use the phone at all when in the office/cafe etc....
(also allow for a bluetooth earpiece to be used as the mic & ear, when not wanting to be handsfree / speaker)...

Nice Idea?

This would be a good idea. Just hope Skype makes a symbian version.

I've been hoping for that ever since the 9500 was announced.

There might be one problem though. The Pocket PC version of Skype needs at least a 400mhz processor. Now I know Symbian uses the processor more effecient, but I'm not sure 150mhz is gonna cut it...

I don't know if Skype needs any particular clock rate for the processor, but it probably has certain latency requirements that the device has to support/guarantee for voice encoding/decoding (and its encryption/decryption). Depending on the system those can be satisfied also with much slower processors (proof is in that much, much slower hardware can do it already for cellular calls with around 50MHz processors).

In other words, the speed of the processor does not have direct impact of the speed and performance of the device for a particular task.

Besides, are there any other kinds of PocketPC's than those with a ~400MHz Intel XScale processors? In other words, there may not be a "need" for a ~400MHz CPU, but they all happen to have one today.

Quite a lot of PPCs actually. The HP iPaq 6315 has a 200mhz, the 6515 has a 312mhz, the MPx only had 150mhz. There also are a few cheap PPCs that come with a 300mhz XScale processor. So I do think it is a "real" requirement (at least for the PPC OS) 😉
