How to get mail connection to choose GSM (Gprs)

Hi all,

I thought the 9500, when not connected to a WIFI hotspot, is supposed to have a heirarchical choice in how to connect? E.G. WIFI first , GPRS second, xxxx third etc & so on......
Well this is certainly seems how it is set up in the 'connections' settings.

Now heres the thing....
When connecting to the web via the browser in a WIFI zone, a descision box always pops up offering me the choice of available connection types:
(WIFI, T-mobile GPRS, Vodafone GPRS, etc etc...)
When not in a WIFI area, the hot spots are missing but it DOES still offer me the phone network connections.

However when attempting a similar connection when 'retreiving email' it only shows WIFI as a connection type to choose from, even when NO wifi is available. therefore the connection fails, but the phone is showing a normal 'phone' signal.

Why is it NOT showing any of the GSM phone connection profiles to choose from?
& YES I DO have Roaming activated in my email account config, which is SUPPOSED to me the alternative connection types when the preferred one(s) are unavailable
So how do I make them show, in the same way they show when connecting to the web?

Cheers
xoio.

As an addon to this....
Very strange... it WILL connect via a GPRS connection, if it finds a Wifi hotspot first but cannot connect to it.... it then automatically uses the next option down on the choice list in the email account advanced settings that i have set.

However, when NO wifi hotspot is present to start with, the 9500 fails to automatically try a GPRS connection, even though they are specified as lternatives. The window just says connect using wifi, & shows no connections.

As mentioned before, connecting to the web ALWAYS gives all the options available no matter what is available to choose from.

Its this a bug?

Well, ...just been on the phone to Vodafone for an hour (they offer support for the phones they sell).
& they could not get it to work......
I shall try Nokia technical help on Monday......(once open) but it seems that this may well be a OS BUG!!!!

Anyone else experienced the above????

Have spoken to Nokia regarding this as well,
& they could NOT get it to function either!! - Whilst not admitting it may be a bug, they were stumped, & tried to 'blame' it on a GPRS access profile.

An access profile(s) I might add that DOES work & has been used to get to the web etc many a time via GPRS.

My work around has been to creat two identical email profiles, one that connects as usual, by trying Wifi first, then subbornly nothing else if no wifi isn't available.

The second profile is config'ed to connect via GPRS only with no options for alternatives. This seems to make it work. But the downside is that the incoming emails are now separated into two different 'account folders'. But at least i can get to my mails for via GPRS when no Wifi is present.
