Is the 6630 a credible MP3 player ?

16 replies · 4,901 views · Started 13 April 2005

Hello,

I'd like to know is the 6630 is a credible MP3 player, I mean if it is realistic to use it instead of a iPod Shuffle or a iRiver MP3 player ?

Thanks in advance

Luc

Depends on your definition of credibility. The PC Suite app Audio Manager can be used to relatively easily rip and move music tracks to the phone. The player on the phone isn't very "sexy", but it works. Storage capacity depends on how big a dual-voltage RS-MMC card you can get.

I'd say yes - but people are more fussy than others.
The sound IMO is superb and I use mine all the time to play MP3's, try to listen to someone else's first if your the fussy kind 😉

isn't sexy?

ohh...u didn't say that!...
player is there for it's purpose..
wanna real mp3? go buy yourself a PC and download winamp..
go to the store..and listen to it..
i like black, u like blue..
there is no use discussing..things like that

WHATEVER...you have a mp3 player in it..use it...the idea is convergence...personally, i don't see the point in having fifty nine seperate devices, like the ipod shuffle bla blah...6630 will do fine...

I don't care about the player (or the phone) been "sexy" in fact.
My girl friend needs to be sexy , this is a requirement, in the case of my phone this is not 😊

What I call a "credible MP3 player" is a device where I can put MP3 files (I can with the 6630) , that can play them (the 6630 can) AND that has a good sound.. I don't know how the 6630 is in this area.

So to narrow my question :

- Is the sound provided by the 6630 good ?
- How does it compares to a MP3 in the iRiver/iPod/Creative family ?
- Does the 6630 allows use of third part earphones (apart the phone earphone) ?
- if the answer is no : are the provided earphone of a good quality ?
- if the answer is no : are they around third part earphones for the 6630 that provide good sound ?

Thanks in advance

Luc

Thanks a lot, it was exactly my point !

Yes its fantastic. OGG play is a must download for any 6630/6680 owner. 😃

OGG play is the best mp3 player on the phone. It sorts your mp3's automatically and has all the features you would require in a phone. It also reads other formats. Supports winamp playlists etc.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/symbianoggplay

Its free too.

i've tried ogg..but haven't used it a lot..
i think sound is the same ( almost 2x smaller files )

- Is the sound provided by the 6630 good ?
well..i have owned siemens sl45i, riom PMP500, and have xiro 128mb usb mp3 player.
playing mp3s on the move..u have a lot of background noises ( trams, cars..etc )..u know what i mean..
overall...sound is good..

haven't used none of them..so i can't say..

- Does the 6630 allows use of third part earphones (apart the phone earphone) ?
i donno if they are available, but i think u can make ( or u can bay ) some adaptor for normal jack headphones..

for headphones by other manufactureres, dunno really..

- if the answer is no : are the provided earphone of a good quality ?
they r okey, but u must watch out for the wires not to lose contact..

that's it..
if u r worried about the sound of mp3, don't b..
go 4 it..

OGGplay supports MP3. As in no conversion needed it just plays them and other formats. It just happens to be called Oggplayer.

You buy an adaptor that lets you use any headphone on the 6630.

It happens to be called that, because it was primarily created to be an Ogg Vorbis audio format player.

Yes. My point is it plays mp3 as well and better than any other player.

YES I HAVE USED THE IPOD FOR A LOOG TIME AND THE QUALITY IS DAMN GOOD and INDISTINGUISHABLE even with VBR mp3's.JUST DONT USE ULTRAMP3 OR MP3PLAYER !!!.......USE THE BUILT IN ONE OR OGG AS BOTH ARE VERY GOOD.
YOu can mod youre earphones so as to suit any headphone set....do a google search.

I'm sure it's a very good MP3 player... but if you buy your 6630 from Vodafone, you'll find that they've blocked the phone's ability to use mp3's as ringtones. This was one of the great features I was looking forward to. I'm trying right now to remove this restriction.

6630 is alot more powerful than N-Gage. 220MHz processor.

I know it's more powerful than N-Gage, but is the playback quality as good as it is on N-Gage? :stupid:
