I know that many people, myself included, have been hoping that iSync 2, which is part of 10.4, would include support for the newer Nokias like the 6630 but it doesn't look good. We may have to wait for a later relase of iSync-
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html
All of the OS X pages have been updated with the official announcement of the release date of 10.4 (29th of April). The above page may just be a version of the old supported phones page, updated to look like the rest of the Tiger pages but I'm not hopeful.
I am NOT amused. I'm not sure if this lethargic attitude Apple seems to have toward supporting the latest Nokia phones is just their way of saying "up yours" to Nokia for the fact that Nokia will not even recognise Mac users buy their phones (where's the Mac version of the desktop syncing software available for Windows boxes?) but it is beginning to really wind me up.
It's so frustrating because you would think that Nokia and Apple would be such natural bedfellows. They both value the design of the UI so highly. That's the reason I've stuck with Series 60 phones. I miss being able to sync my data like I did with my 6600.
If there is no specific device detection, the list mentions 7610/6670. If those work, then also 6260, 3230, 6630, 6680 and even 9300/9500 should work even if they are not listed, because they use the same synch mechanisms and formats.
DOH!
That's what I get for speed reading that list of phones. I was looking for the newest models like the 3230/6630/6680 and the 9300 but missed the two older ones, the 6670 and the 7610. I'm guessing that Apple put those two as they are more well known in the States but you're spot on as all those phones use syncML. Well spotted.
Ah well, I was going to buy Tiger anyway but that's just it even more appealling.
Thanks for posting that info. I do not beleive the iSync list of supported devices is a complete list. I have been waiting for iSync/OS to be updated so I can sync my 6630 with my G4. However, I do beleive the Tiger will work with latest phones because:
Current iSync Problem.
7610, 6630 etc was previously not supported because Nokia changed from using mRouter to SyncML. current version of iSync only supports mRouter. (source: apple forums & iSync tech specs). The latest handsets (released after 6600) use syncML.
HOPE
Seeing as 7610 is supported in Tiger, it means OSX will now use mRouter as well as syncML. All the new phones from nokia, ie. 6630, 6680 etc sync over SyncML.
Lets wait and see, I will be getting my copy of Tiger regardless. Will let you all know if it works or not
some interesting and promissing information here
MacInTouch Reader
Based on Tiger build 8A393, iSync uploaded an "iSync Config" application to the phones, which allows iSync to work with the SyncML phones. It works like a charm with my Nokia 6620!

see the solutions I described in 'Syncing contacts and calendar with a Mac' in this forum and have fun!
I just loaded Tiger and attempted to sync my 6630 with iSync 2.0 (v78) and was hit with a "this phone is not supported by iSync" error msg. Guess we'll have to wait for Apple to support our series 60 Nokia phones. grrrrr, tiger.
Mmm ... so many pretty things in Tiger ... just not the only functional update that I actually needed! D'oh! Even still I just cant stop hitting F12! 😛

If you want to see Apple supporting Symbian V8.0 phones with iSync and Tiger
Regards,
w00t - 14 signatures and counting! lol
I know , just 14 signature for the moment , it's very little but I hope that the Symbian/Mac community will be reactive
In one way, I am annoyed at Apple not supporting iSync with the 6630, I think we
should in turn be having a petition to Nokia...
...Hey guys...Now about having the Nokia Suite for Macintosh? Its well beyond time!!!
People moan about 10.4 not being upto date and the theory that they have been
snubbed....well in a way, its right!
Good news!
Looks like somebody has got my suggestion of the old trick of editing the iSync config files to work again-
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050422125043439
There's a reply at the bottom of the page that someone as successfully tried the same trick with a 3230.
Could someone who has Tiger (still waiting on mine :frown: ) to give this a try (changing the references of 9300 to 6630, not that it should make any difference as that's just a label)?
Cheers.
I was so excited upon finding out that Tiger & iSync 2.0 would support my Nokia 7610, a get my copy of Tiger, clean install, and the first thing I do is attempt to iSync, and iSync says... "Your device is not supported"
Has anyone else had this issue, or know of a way to fix?
I have tried the hack posted on maxosxhints for the 9300, but modified for my 6680.
No go for a Nokia 6680. I modified iSync as per first post there, managed to install the iSync app on the phone and it runs, managed to add the 6680 to iSync, but when i try to run it, it tell me that the app on the phone is not running and to run the assistant again....that's where I'm at.
Hope there's a fix soon or that Apple updates iSync very soon.
OK I have a theory about why the 3230 and the 9300 work but not the 6680 (and probably the 6630)-
According to the info on the Nokia website, the 7610 (which is officially supported by iSync in Tiger), the 3230 and the 9300 (both of which are NOT officially supported yet work with the hack), use v7.0 of the Symbian OS while the 6630 and the 6680 use v8.0
This really does sound like we are going to have to wait for a fix from Apple. The good news is that, from what I've been reading, the engineers at Apple have been working on 10.4.1 since even before 10.4 was declared Gold Master. Development didn't stop at all. There are a number of reports that 10.4.1 may even be out before the end of this month. However, we know from past experience that Apple has released iSync updates independent of the OS.
Here's hoping that the official support isn't too long coming......
Anyone tried iSync 2.0 with Nokia 6260?
Says it should work on http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html
...but I keep on having the same problem I had with OSX 10.3 ... it shows all the functions in Bluetooth Settings (SDP Server, Hands-Free Audio Gateway, OBEX File Transfer, SyncMLClient, Nokia OBEX PC Suite Services, OBEX Object Push, Fax, Dial-Up Networking)
... but iSync says it cant connect to this phone...
It appears that the wait for support for the 6630 and the 6680 goes on much longer than hoped-
I installed the update to 10.4.1 last night and we still don't have data syncing :frown:
i have just bought a nokia 6680 and have been trying like craxy to get a connection to the MMC...
over bluetooth i can send, receive and transfer files, contacts etc from the phone or the MMC card but not from computer to phone...
is there any way i can access the MMC to transfer directly over bluetooth?
i need this because some mp3 files are larger than the free space on the system memory (4mb) and i can't transfer my files across...
any help and comments much appreciated!
toby 😊
