Can the default apps be safely uninstalled?

Just curious...
Say for example you are able to get 3rd party progs that perform better than the default apps on the communicator. E.G: a better browser than the one installed.
Or a better all round media player, thus rendering both the music player & Real player redundant.
Can the likes of real etc, be removed to clean up 'clutter' etc??

Those defaults apps that exist in ROM (Read-Only Memory) on the device cannot be unstalled (and they don't take up any usable storage memory or RAM (Random Access Memory), and they are not even loaded in RAM for execution either (except for any run-time memory for data that they might need), but executed directly from ROM.
