Which Phone??????

14 replies · 2,861 views · Started 14 April 2005

Hello all, I am after some advice. I am in the market to get Nokia 7710 or a SE P910. I need a phone with mainly the below features

Word
Excel
Email
Movies for those long journeys (is this easy to do)

Any advice on which to choose. I went in a couple of stores today but the sales assistants couldn't give me much info on either phone.

Please help

I think I like 7710 but can you imagine using it as phone? I don't.
910 look more like phone. 7710 like gadget.

I recently bought P910 for that reason.

Right. The P910 has WiFi/WLAN and the 9500 doesn't. Wait! That's not right. It is the 9500 that has WiFi/WLAN support and not the P910!

OK. So the P910 has a bigger display, at least? Oh, heck. Wrong again! It is the 9500 that has the bigger display.

Well, at least the P910 has EDGE support, for sure, for faster network connectivity? Nope. Sorry. No EDGE in the P910, but there is on the 9500.

Hey, but at least the P910 uses easier to obtain and cheaper memory expansion cards. Oh, no. That's not right either. The P910 needs those expensive pesky little MemoryStick Duo cards, but the 9500 uses standard MMC cards.

Well, at least it is easier to write email and other stuff with the P910, because if its big QWERTY keyboard. Bzzztt!! It is the 9500 that has a big QWERTY keyboard, not the P910.

Anyway, smiffey, it is a matter of taste and preferences, after all, so don't take this too seriously and make up your own mind. 😉

And over the 9500 I prefer the 9300, because it is smaller.

And if you like a device with handwriting input, then the P910 or 7710 are alternatives. Of those, the 7710 has EDGE network support, built-in FM radio, stereo sound output, a bigger display and an option for a mobile TV module (seems to be in test use in some countries where mobile TV broadcasting tests have started).

I can say that I'm happy. What i don't like is the feeling that I need to be careful with the screen. I'm getting a screen protector. If i feel that way with a P910 that have flip covering half of the screen, imagine how I feel with 7710 that exposed the whole screen. But maybe I just tooo careful. but i guess all pda user will feel the same.

Get a 7710, it's got a nice big screen to actually watch movies on and stereo sound. I heard battery life is good for movies too.

i got the 7710 here and no screen proctector, the only thing is that not to put it in the same pocket as your keys and stuff...

That's exactly why I wrote what I did; I have no doubt that the 9500 is huge on features, but as a PHONE? Nah. No comparison - the P910 is far far better!

The 7710 meets all your needs...as for watchign TV that would be great, I found this article:

Europeans came a step closer to having television on their mobile phones on Friday when two groups of companies announced plans to push forward with consumer trials and establish a standard for the technology. British wireless carrier O2 and TV broadcast technology company NTL said they would start a consumer trial in Oxford, England, early next year, using multimedia handsets made by Nokia.

An alliance of major mobile phone makers, including Nokia, NEC, Motorola, Siemens and Sony Ericsson said in a separate announcement they would cooperate to build a standard allowing TV to be watched on several types of device.

That's still make 7710 as gadget, not phone. So it come down to gadget vs Phone. Not to mention the image you giving to others.

7710 is so sloooow (like 9500/9300)!!
and poor tray:/
9300 no wifi but 9500 is very big
7710 is big misanderstoooooooood
(i had one for tests...)

I wouldn't say it's a gadget, it is a real phone and does have very good phone functionality and some pda functionality too, the TV thing would be fun but I can't imagine being able to get a continuous signal for it..would it be delayed time?
