Hi all
My 6630 arrived today. Hating it. My 6600 wouldn't let me use a short mp3 as a ringtone so partly for that reason I upgraded to this - only to find that VODAFONE have DELIBERATELY disabled the ability to use non-DRM'd mp3 files (not to mention messed with other things like stuck stupid links all over the media gallery).
I'm going to get the proper Nokia firmware on this phone, even if have to bribe someone.
Does anyone here know of anybody I could contact regarding flashing this phone to the PROPER NOKIA firmware? I've read here that most Nokia Service Centres will refuse to install anything but the standard branded shite, but does anybody know of anywhere that will, for a fee if necessary, do this job for me?
Thanks very much in advance.
My Nokia Sevice center flashed mine with a generic firmware no problem, obviously I had to ask for it though 😮
Try some of the smaller centers i.e. one shop companies as the larger chain stores have more of a tendency to go by the book 😡
I dont know how true and if true at all but a dickie bird told me it could be dependant on the hardware they use, i.e. hook the phone up and it will automatic flash with the correct firmware wether it be generic or network type and theres nothing can be done to change what you phones true upgrade should be e.g. tmob phone will be flashed with the latest tmob firmware and so on. :frown:
Dont Sony phones have a similar system? Could all be a whole crock of shit but it sounds plausable.
I have a Vodafone Nokia 6630 with V 2.39 firmware. I have just got my phone unlocked to all networks and I now want to upgrade to the latest firmware (4.03 I believe?) - generic if possible so that the vodafone mp3 restriction won't exist.
I spoke with a local service centre and they told me that if I got the generic firmware then my phone may not work afterwards! They also said that if I got the Vodafone update then my phone would again be locked to Vodafone.
Is this information accurate? From reading Prolinks' post I assume the generic upgrade does indeed work on Vodafone. Has anyone on Vodafone upgraded to 4.03 in London?
ofcourse it is NOT correct,
with generic firmware, your phone will work, even if it is locked. !!!
