Hi,
Excuse my ignorance, but has anyone figured out a way to *page scroll* through a list? For example, the Contacts list and the Telephone list. It's very slow to scroll with the down/up arrow when one wants to browse.
And speaking of Contacts; any one knows how to *jump* to the folders at the top when I'm at the bottom of the open database list? (assuming you have multiple databases). The only work around that I found so far is to go to the top of the list by entering "A" and then deleting it (backspace) and use the up arrow or the joystick to scroll to the folders (usually to open another Contact's database folder). I'm using a 9300.
Thanks in advance for any help...
To page up/down press the 'Chr' key and 'joystick' (or whatever you call it) up/down.
Pressing Chr+joystick left/right takes you to the top or bottom of some lists.
Oh, and I think you can press a letter and the cursor jumps down to the first item in the list starting with that letter.
Not sure it works on all lists though.
Thanks, Andy. That's exactly what I was looking for (the Chr+joystick trick). I've been an avid PalmOS user for a long time (PDA only), but my 9300 never ceases to amaze me 😊

Ctrl+Chr+joyUp / Ctrl+Chr+joyDown to get to the top and bottom of Contacts list.
That's a good one, Thanks 😊 Now if I can find a way to add a meeting to the calander with one of my contacts via a shortcut --while I'm in contacts-- like I used to do with Palm OS, it would be perfect.

I'd be interested in hear your general thoughts on the palm to symbian move, I'm a tungsten T3 user with a love of the old Psion 5mx, and looking for a phone and pda. I wasn't sure that the 9300 offered enough connectivity (lacks wi-fi, and connecting to internet trhough a pc seems a bit of a fag)...

Hi,
First I should warn you that I've never used a Treo 600/650. I believe it's only fair to compare the 9300/9500 with the 600/650. However, looking at PDA functionality alone, I would still say that Palm OS is better, but not by a long margin. It's just that I miss the huge freeware and shareware base that the Palm have always enjoyed, and I miss some of the things I used to do with the Palm, like my wish above for the ability to add meetings with contacts directly from the contacts list and the shortcuts that are built in (e.g. date and time stamps) and the ones I created. And the Palm is much faster than my 9300.
And when it comes to desktop connectivity, I've always loved the Palm Desktop simplicity and usefulness. The Nokia PC suite is almost useless and of no use to me at least.
However, I love the 9300 as a phone/PDA combination. True it's slow, but I don't mind that. I find it very solid and quite impressive. I love the 9300 keyboard as I never liked having to pull the stylus on my TT almost every time I wanted to do something. I also like having a regular cell phone keypad at the front and the clamshell design that always protects the inside screen. And speaking of the screen; it's very clear and bright. In fact so bright, I keep it on the second brightness setting.
I choose the 9300 over the 9500 for its size. I can live without wi-fi and camera. The 9500 is too big in my opinion. GPRS and EGPRS can compensate for the lack of wi-fi. But if you see yourself using wi-fi very often then consider the 9500 or look else ware. And BTW, connecting to the internet via a PC never worked for me (someone commented on making it work but only with proxy-less ISPs-- how very thoughtful of Nokia!)
So far I only bought two apps for my 9300; Powerday and Powersafe (both from Symbianware). I don't load it with a lot of junk and I sure don't try to treat it like a DVD player 😉 I find it very stable (no crashes knock on wood). I just use it for what it's intended to; a phone and a PDA, and in that sense and to me at least, the 9300 comes close to perfection; absolutely no regrets.
I have to admit though that whenever I'm close to the shops and see a Treo 650 on display I always pause and look at it and wonder 😊
Maybe someone who had the chance to try both (9500/9300 and a Treo 650) can comment.

Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I think the 650 looks like a really good compromise, and i think i need a phone/pda to get the most out of my pda.
Trouble is, if something works well, i struggle to move on - my psion was onbly replaced when it broke, i reluctantly changed my mobile after 5 years cause mine already did "everything" i needed etc... I guess i'll always hanker after a symbian device

Petr,
Thank you so much for such a nice document 😊 Very informative, Nokia should've included something like this in their manual.
