I've just moved into Communicator territory, got myself a 9500 after years of using a Psion 5mx and various phones - most recently a SonyEricsson T610.
With that T610 and FMA (fma.sourceforge.org) I could remote-control my PC's WinAmp. Since this is my primary music source with speakers scattered around the house, that was fantastically useful. Is there anything out there that will do that for the 9500?
[I've found and tried Bemused (http://bemused.sourceforge.net/) and the j2me client (http://elektron.its.tudelft.nl/~jkohne76/), and it _nearly_ works - but the client crashed straight after getting the now-playing info from the PC, so I'm chatting to one of the developers]
Edit: And does anyone know why VNC's java viewer doesn't work at all? (www.realvnc.com) Just a blank screen in Web.

I encountered same problem. I needed to control my winamp player somehow. Solution was to write my own program. It's a midp 1.0 software at the time, so it should work with other phone/PDAs also.
I'll release beta version binaries quite soon. If you are interested, send me email and I'll try to speed up this process 😊

That looks excellent...i'd be interested in this!...works over WLAN also?...even better.
Let me know when it's ready for beta release and i'll do a news post on the front page.

You absolute star! Looks nice, too - good to see a Java app that isn't covered in unnecessary pretty bits. I shall have a play with the beta tomorrow, see if I can break it in new and interesting ways.
Thanks!

Two programs are now available on beta releases.
Winamp Remote Program:
http://users.tkk.fi/~pmpaavol/winamp-remote/
Winamp Remote Search:
http://users.tkk.fi/~pmpaavol/winamp-remote-search/
Someone should maybe test these programs, before you make the front page news post 😊 WinampRemote has worked with 2 people, but the search program is just released and anyone haven't tested it yet.
Everything works with my system, of course 😉

I just updated the search software, so now it supports realtime file system browsing too.
In the beginning the purpose was to make software which had play/pause and next buttons. Somehow requirements grew and now the purpose is that I don't have to get up from coach to set music in my computer 😃

i tried your Winamp Remote Program and it works like a charm except that it forgets the IP/port/pw everytime you exit also one you go to that screen you can't back out unless you fill the fields

i like the way you think

will it work for windows media player? 🙄
craigl21 wrote:will it work for windows media player? 🙄
No it won't work. First you should find http-fronted to you media player and then make some changes to source code.
Winamp can do same things than windows media player, because they use same codecs. Or am I missing something ?-)

I just made updated version of both programs. Now they support settings saving. There also few improvements. Current version is 0.95b.

Just for archiving purposes.
I've made new program from scratch. It does same than those previous 2 programs, but it looks 1000 times better and it has more functionality.
At time it supports also Media Player Classic and VLC VideoLAN player. Custom commands are also possible.
Also it should work in all Java MIDP2.0 -devices.
