do you get charged for this?
I just went to my nearest nokia service centre and they said it would cost me 15 even though its still within the year's warranty. They said they'd only do it for free if there is something wrong with the phone. I told them - bugs in the firmware is "something wrong with the phone" but they wouldnt do it.

my version is 4.0437.4

What is the latest and do you know what the updates are, cos unless they are quite major, I wont fork out 15 for the priveledge.

At my country here in asia, software upgrades are free if still within warranty period. Normally it will take abt 2 hrs here to do so if you send for firmware upgrade.

Your firmware is quite new. No much changes till the latest.

Hi. Unless they've changed it again, that is the latest firmware version. I got my 7610 upgraded to it free of charge at an authorised Nokia service centre (see the Nokia website for details of where your nearest one is). I enquired about the charging policy at the time, and they said that firmware updates are free within the warranty, but would cost 25 to do once the warranty had ran out. I think that's more or less Nokia's actual policy, not just the service centre's.

Also, to get a firmware update within warranty, you really have to say that you have an specific fault with your phone rather than just wanting one for the sake of it. They have to actually decribe this fault on a form, which you then sign and they send off to Nokia. I said that I just wanted it updated due to the improvement over the last software version, so no real specific faults. They were a really helpful place, and so said that they'd just write slow menu changing as the reason. That was supposed to be one of the improvements made in any case (although I think it can still be slow at times!!).

Hope this info helps you out a bit.
James.

PS. Oh by the way, this might help you if you want to know what things were improved in the latest version..... http://www.symplification.com/n7610/guide
