ok, i was installing opera 6.20 for s60 this evening... everything went fine until i went to use the phone. upon a reboot (after locking up) the phone displayed a "system error" after stating that "-insert your app here-" had closed. i have reformatted with the mmc out have not tried w/o the sim yet. to top it all off, the damn thing recycles itself between the sendo screen and a white screen when i put it on the charger. have reflashed the firmware and reformatted about five times all with the same end result. need some help. thanks.

I made the same mistake you did - Opera is ALREADY installed on the phone - you do not need to add your own version, it should be pre-installed.

I've upgraded to Opera 6.2 on my phone, it should install over the top of 6.1 without any problems...

The cycling you're describing sounds to me like something I saw with a firmware update once, where the phone wasn't correctly reading Now!s ini file. However, a re-format always cured that problem.

Just to confirm - have you done a re-format of the phone by pressing 5 AND a re-flash of the phone's firmware?

If you have and you're still having problems, then I suggest a chat with Plinkykev - I'm not sure why a re-format won't fix the problem for you. (as Opera can only get installed on the C: drive, not the Z: drive)

The cycling is the EXACT same problem I have with Agile Messenger - I'll try the whole re-format thing when I get back, although the though of having to re-install ALL my software does give me the heebie-jeebies though...

stu - yes, i have done the 5 key format at least five times with the same end result.

UPDATE - i have the phone back to it's "original" configuration with no side affects less the cycling while on the charger (phone will cycle between the sendo screen and a white screen in a "do loop" but never charge). i did this by reformatting with no sim an no mmc in the phone. when the phone rebooted and asked me to "insert sim" i put in a "clean" sim from my 6600 (a new unused sim). when i say the "original" condition, what i mean is that when i reformatted with my original sim, it would format, but there were no icons in the favs, bookmarks or anything else. only after reformatting w/o a sim and then again with a clean sim was i able to correct this.

@kev - have i killed it in less than 24 hours? i would hate to think that a failed installation (althoug it showed "success"😉 would do this 😞 i can deal with the error messages after the bad install, but the cycling on the charger has me stumped 😮

thanks for all the responses thus far.

- update -

ok, so i did some messing around... here is what i had to do in order to get the phone back to a (crosses fingers it stays this way) "normal" condition.

1-pull ALL cards from phone (sim and mmc)
2-reformat using the power+5 method
3-powerdown and insert sim
4-reformat as in step 2 again
5-insert mmc (i will leave this up to you, but i let the phone format it because i had no card reader at work)
6-let the phone reformat the mmc
7-repeat steps 1-4
8-insert sim and mmc and begin to enjoy th ephone again

now - this has solved all my woes to this point. got rid of the recycling of the system while on the charger and rid of all the system errors

the MAIN reason i believe this happened to me was that there was something (virus? - i am not running AV yet as i need some recommendatins from you guys) on the mmc card that was dorking up the system completely.

hope this may help others in the same boat some day.

It's definately not a virus of any description - I posted a link in another about viruses and Symbian (in brief - it's a complete crock).

The cycling thing as I mentioned above happened when I installed agile messenger but rather than going through the thorough cleaning out you did, I just removed it and things went back to normal.

My suggestion is that as you install new software, keep a text file of what you put on and when you put it on - this will help to narrow down troublesome software...
