Nokia seams to be about to anounce an
7650i with SD support
and a 9230 tri-band with GPRS & MMS.
This leaves our P800 in a tough position...
Dead on arrival ?
There has been so much hype and waiting over the P800, that when it arrives I think it will be another let down (Did I hear anyone say T68i 😃 )
Don't get me wrong it will still be a great device but it has lost loads of it's market, I still may get one depending on what Nokia announce next week 😉
Must there be only one?
Yes, the longer the delay, the more competition it gets. But it's not like the P800 is going to lose its entire league of fans over the delay. There is room for all in such a vast untapped smartphone market.
In my opinion, neither the P800 or the 7650 or the 9210 or even the new SPV MS Smartphones are direct substitutes for each other. Different people buy different phones according to their different needs. All this prediction of the P800's doom serves nothing except for your own personal satisfaction. The P800 breaks new grounds and revolutionalises the whole concept of a phone. Give credit where it is due and give SE a break.
Revolutionize?...
The P800 is loosing its advantages one by one to the competion
7650 had no voice bluetooth profile and no memory expansion, 7650i solves that.
Advantages left more screen res to the P800, MP3 player.
Disadvantage proprietary memory stick duo.
Telit 919 is about to hit shelves with GPRS, MP3, MMC, host USB, MMS, camera (low res). For 500EUR probably one of the big Christmas2002 winners.
Now that 92XX is about (I know, 6months) to get GPRS many will be willing to ditch the camera (of the P800) for the increased screen resolution and keyboard.
I agree that there is a market for every device, but the market for the P800 is certainly bleeding away...
I'm not saying SE haven't done a good job with the P800, but they have the annoying habit of announcing a product and setting a release date (Which is always 6 months before the actual release date)
By the time this "revolutionary" new product finally gets into the shops there are 5 other products that all do the same thing or more from different companys.
They are the first to announce but the last one's to come up with the goods.
I still think that P800 is the best choice.
7650i will be a great device but keeping the distance between P800.

with all the new toys being released i think we should see some aggressive pricing for the p800 otherwise ur right.
And again,the 7650i issue,when will it stop.
Its pretty much a cycle:
Company A releases nifty product
People like nifty product
People buy nifty product
Company B releases a better product
People like better product
People buy better product
Company A has three new products coming
Company B has a couple new products
People confused?
People log on the net
People open www.allaboutsymbian.com
They chat in the forums and learn more about both products
People save money and buy one of the product (or two with spare change)
SO the cycle goes on, with the first steps not necessary, (they were the beginning)
I think if we keep getting bugged about not having the best device on block it'll never finish, as the company is satisfied with "people buying" sp it'll keep releasing. You should buy what suits you and meets your needs.

P.S does the T919 really have a USB host (whatever that is)? Does that mean you can put the 20 GB pockey drive onto it? :-?
Risking to be a little off topic

why worry about it? the best topics are OFF topics 😃
Only 1 model with BlueTooth ?...
No memory expansion card on any of them?...
P800 2003 is all yours!!!
If it gets ever released that is 😃
:robot: Muffy, nice to see you've made good use of the new Emoticons :robot:
The p800 has lost so much ground who knows if it'll ever reach it's full potential. By the time it comes out ther'll be a whole host of smatphones to choose from so it'll lose ground to the competition for sure.
It's a shame cos the p800 looked so good i was prepared to put up with MS duo and all the other crap but it's just to late now. I brought a Loox which is a much better handheld device as it doesn't try to be a phone.
By the time it actually surfaces sometime next year (dont be surprised if it's not January) there will be so many similar products that the p800 will just be another star shining in the sky.
You read my opinion clearly. But thats both our opinions, other people might just like it. Like some people are "hooked up" to some brand, i have a friend that only buys nokias (theses days, everybody does!!!) and even when there's cool SE or other manufactereres products around, he goes and buys another nokia (he buys alotta phones) So it will defintly be sold, but i dont think as much as it would if it was released a long time ago.
Theres this sweet phone from samsung, its actually a PDA, and microsoft pocket pc OS with phone edition, it has bluetooth and an integrated camera! Its a pity it only works on the 900/1900Mhz networks
Its not released yet, but i can't remeber its name
