largest RSMMC card for 6630?

7 replies · 2,445 views · Started 12 May 2005

without getting problems, anyone suggest types, makes etc?

also how easy would it be for me to copy everything from my original RSMMC that came with the phone (and now has a few of my own apps on it), to the new card.

Would a nokia service centre do this for me, I've no card reader on PC.

Suppose nokia service centre would do it but would prob charge.
Best bet is to buy card reader. They have them on ebay for about 6 inc p&p.
With card reader its easy

Scan card on pc for all files inc hidden.
Expose hidden files.
Copy all files to a blank file on pc
Swap cards
Copy files from blank file onto card
Hide previously exposed files.
Thats it.

Everything should now be exactly the same on both cards.
Except for larger capacity phone won't even know cards have changed.

Hope this helps

Ive seen these multi card readers, maybe I can copy from one to another? I take it the software to expose and hide these "hidden files" is all included with any reader?

If ya runnin on windows xp then ya prob already got software for card reader built in.
When connected to pc it shows up in
My Computer>Devices with Removable Storage>Removeable disk
Double clicking on it opens files up in a seperate window
In the upper left of this window is the [search] button
selecting this opens up the menu "what do you want to search for"
Click on [all files and folders]
This opens another menu.
Click on [more advanced options]
Here you will see a box marked "search for hidden files and folders" Click in this box.
Now click on [search] at the BOTTOM of this menu.
Pc will now show ALL files and folders on card.
Hidden ones are shown as faded folders.
To unhide folder right click it
Select properties and untick box marked "hidden"
Return usin back button to initial window.
You will now see ALL the folders on the card.
Usually Images, Sound, Videos, Other and System(system previously hidden)
There may be others like Back up depending what you have stored on card.
From here it's just matter of drag and drop to new card.

Once ya moved folders to new card remember to hide previously hidden folders.
Just right click, select properties and click in box marked "hidden"

I know it now doesn't seem as simple as i first said but belive me it is
Most of this i've just mentioned is basic searching within windows xp

If ya usin Mac i have no idea how ya do it

just before this thread runs away.

is anyone using a 512MB card on the 6230? does it cause problems, or is that size ok and compatible with the 6230?

just ordered 10 in 1 USB card reader for 12.95 from mobilefun.co.uk and also RSMMC Dual voltage 512MB card. for 74.95. NOt in stock though the memory card.

How long has it been out this size, 512mb? is that why shipping takes a couple of weeks?

hopefully following the guide above I will be able to swap all info from my standard RSMMC card to the new 512MB card put it back in the phone and carry on using it as normal.

The phone wont wipe the installation logs will it, I presume it will "think" it is the same card just more free memory?
