Why is Outlook Contacts un-sync-able?

10 replies · 2,652 views · Started 17 May 2005

My Sendo X, I bought just two days ago, can only sync with Outlook Calendar, but NOT with the Contacts.
I export all the contacts in my Outlook 2003 to WAB, Sexdo still won't sync.
Anyone knows how to solve this? A strong PIM feature is what I loved about Sexdo. :frown:

anyone have an answer for this? i gave up trying to do this long ago... as he said, the PIM function was a very strong selling point to purchase this.

1. Sendo X doesn't support Outlook 2003. 😡
2. Sendo X doesn't sync well with Windows XP w/ SP2. 😡 😡

Yes it does! To BOTH!

I use Outlook 2003 and WinXP SP2 and I have no problems with syncing!

Are you all using the latest version of pcConnect (the one from Sendo's website, not the one on the CD)?

I have had no problems with Outlook 2003 syncing with my X - works every time 😊

No, wouldn't be down to a VodaFone version.
Also Outlook 2003 and XP SP2 work fine - got both on my laptop.

The only time I have seen such issues (with contacts) is where there are control characters within the contact records, such as in the Title field, eg:

Senior VP
North American Division

This ends up in Outlook as "Senior VP[]North American Division" in the contact title, as it is only one line. The [] actually shows as BOX (control) character. This is more easily seen when using a "list" view within the contacts folder.

We have also had this in-house, where one of the directors had a business card scanner that was adding the contacts in automatically from the scanner, and also where some third-party contact system was sending e-mails updates for people, when they alter their own records. Not sure if either of those scenarios apply here.

This messes up the sync. The only way to solve it (i'm afraid) is to manually edit the contact records in Outlook to get rid of the control characters.

This is a standard S60 issue by-the-way, and not specific to the Sendo X. The S60 system doesn't like control characters in text fields.
