this is my 1st post in this wonderfull forum,

ive been thinking of buying a laptop and using the phone as a modem, how do i go about doing this????

is it easy???

what do i need to buy???

cheers!!!!

I think you basically need good OS, PC with infrared port, working GPRS connection and Nokia 7650. If you can't get fixed fee GPRS, I wouldn't recommend using your phone as a modem.

I can't remember the specific settings needed, as it was several months ago when I tested the 7650 and Thinkpad combination.

** Magic **

Normally i use broadband but seen as though i cant run all mym pcs on it yet i use my 7650 as a modem.I connect my phone usin the connect as modem option.
connections>modem>connect via infra red

i created a new internet connection and used my wap providers dial up number (o2).
in the username and password spaces i put geniewap(o2) and (password)
then when you connect your phone dials up and you can browse the internet.

i would advise usin o2 sim with free wap

When I got my 7650, I also bought a Bluetooth USB adapter (in stick case - I will not say the brand of this adapter, because someone could think that I am doing advertising here 😉 ).
I must say that I was impressed from the capabilities of this little thing, especially from the software came with it! I can use my 7650 with my laptop as modem (HSCSD, GPRS, Voice, Fax, etc) and I will never use again the stupid IrDA that wants line-of-sight connection!
I got too excited, so I decided to carry this adapter with me wherever I go, to plug it in any PC that I want.
Also I bought a USB Flash Memory stick of 16 MB, to store the drivers of USB Bluetooth adapter in it!!! 😃 (I'm crazy, I know...)
So, while writing this post, my 7650 is in my pocket and I am connected to the Internet via GPRS... 😉
