Hi all, I have had my P910i now for a week and so far I am not that impressed. I spent the best part of a month reading reviews and searching forums for advice on phones and finally decided to get the P910i.
Don't get me wrong its not that I hate it, its just that it doesn't seem to live up to all the good things that I have read. With the exception of Excel and word it doesn't seem to do much more then my wifes D500, which is much smaller and practible when you are on the move (I have spent the last week trying my hardest not to scratch it)
One of the problems that I have had is that I created a word doc on my phone and when I transfered it to my PC it came out in a weird formula/code. What am I doing wrong. As I can transfer a word doc from my PC to my phone and edit it and then send it back to my PC and it comes out ok.
Also ap wise what is recommended? (I installed oggplayer but I keep getting error 9 messages).
Where can I get some good themes from?
Is there any good sites for free media i.e movies, TV shows, music videos etc.
I only have a week left if I want to return it and get another phone. If I do return it nothing else seems to really stand out at the moment. Can anyone recommend anything. I am with Vodaphone at the moment as they have the best business tarif.
Please give some advice, if there is something that I am missing please help as I want to like this phone but at the moment I am finding this difficult.
A couple of, different form-factor, Symbian OS based Nokia devices to consider, instead, perhaps:
http://www.nokia.com/phones/7700 (also "PDA-style" with touch-screen & pen-input, but with landscape display, additionally with EDGE network support and FM radio + the option of using a separate, big Bluetooth QWERTY-keyboard).
http://www.nokia.com/phones/9300 (a "PDA-style phone also with EDGE, built-in QWERTY-keyboard and large landscape display inside; no camera, though, if you need that sort of thing).
http://www.nokia.com/phones/9500 (like the 9300; somewhat larger, but with camera and Wi-Fi/WLAN)
http://www.nokia.com/phones/6680 (more traditional "candybar", but with 262K colours display, EDGE & 3G/WCDMA network support, two cameras for video calling/sharing, the better camera of the two is 1.3Mpix & lots of available Series 60 3rd party apps).
I don't know if you can get these on Vodafone in your country (where ever that happens to be, as Vodafone operates in so many).
Thanks for your reply, all of these are available in the UK. I will check them out tomorrow.
As for your Word/Excel problem, it is because you have a 2000 MS-Office.
I have the same problem, but if you go to their website, they will give you add-on that enable your beamed file from your phone to be used on PC.
I forget their website, but try to make up an excel file, beamed it and open it. When you open the file, you will see message and instruction on how to download the add-in.
I actually fancy the nokia too, but I like the idea of having a stylus.
It just me.
Here's the plugin, sometimes it is so difficult to access their website.
That's only valid for Excel, Word documents are in fact in a html format, so try changing the file extension from "doc" to all "files/html" in the "open" dialogue box. You should then be able to save it as a std. doc file. Messy but that's the way it is with Quickoffice. Documents to Go UIQ is worth looking at, it's just come out.

you will find it hard to use any mobile device to work with spreadsheets and documents. You just need a bigger screen and a keyboard.
Stay clear of the Nokia 9300 and 9500. I had one and it seemed good to start with but quickly it gets annoying. Its seriously underpowered for what it is and is just too sluggish. It gets annoying to use. It also has some quirks which make it no good for me.
I also need a touch screen, its hard to ditch it once youve had it.
The P910 is a fine phone indeed but remember, there is no perfect phone that gives you everything you want. You will always make a sacrifice.
Having owned a P800 and P900 for a long time, and now the 9300 for 4.5 months, I can safely say that I find the 9300 to be much better in almost every aspect. Mostly due to the large screen area, the keyboard, a cleverly designed UI and fairly decent built-in apps. Unlike the previous poster, I don't find it 'underpowered' at all. As long as you remember to keep your most used applications open, everything works as fast as you'd expect. It's just a matter of getting a good comprehension of how the UI and memory structure works. Once you get used to it, you'll find it pleasurable to use, at least I do.
The S80 UI has many navigation options and keyboard shortcuts for practically everything, so I hardly ever miss having a touch screen.
how many contacts do you have? 800 or more and mine just was not usable. Trying to send a mail or pull up a contact would take forever as it had to render the list each time. No sub catagorys or break down.
As a business phone is wasnt any good for me.
I have the 9300 and am sick of it. Websites takes forever to download, and loading softwares are slow. The keyboard is one thing that I love about it. The main push for the p910a is the 850mhz band that it supports. Cingular in USA has 1900 support patchy at best..
