Hi,
I live in Canada and use the Fido network, but can also roam onto the Rogers network. When I manually scan for a network the X responds that no networks are found, however it has no problem selecting Fido automatically. My issue is that I want to manually select Rogers because I have a stronger signal at home with them, but the X apparently can't find any networks so will not let me select it.
Help please!
Thanks,
Phil
What frequency do these networks run on?
As per http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/index.shtml Fido is a GSM 1900 Mhz network whereas Rogers is GSM 850/1900 Mhz.
It sounds like a simple coverage problem with 1900Mhz in that area. 1900 Mhz usually has a smaller coverage footprint than 850 Mhz.
Check out the coverage maps on the website above and ask Fido and Rogers what their detailed coverage maps show for your area. It may also be worthwhile asking Rogers what frequencies are more prominent on the base stations in your area.
That's what I was getting at too...the phone can't find 850MHz. so will only spot a network which is on 1900 MHz.
You can force the phone to ONLY look at 1900 MHz. which may improve your search times slightly, but if the network you're looking for is only available on 850 where you are, then I'm afraid the X won't be able to find it.

i'm olso on fido and i use nokia 6630,6680 and it finds very easy rogers(uses now fido network 1900 so is not gonna be a problem finding rogers)but what can i say good luck with u'r phone 😊(u will need it)
I don't think it's a coverage problem because my Nokia 6230 (UK Edition) can pick up both Rogers & Fido and connect to both without any problems.
What I don't understand is that the X can Automatically connect to Fido, but it can't manually find Fido or Rogers. Strange and it seems like a bug to me.
So I just thought I'd try my Orange UK SIM card to see if that had the same problem. And guess what? No problem - the Orange SIM can manually select both Rogers and Fido.
So it appears my Fido SIM has a problem.... Anyone ever seen this before? Still strange that my 6230 works OK with it but not the X....
