Orange TV on 6680 but what about 6630?

10 days ago Orange launched their Orange TV service which will make 9 TV channels available to stream to your phone via 3g.

However, their press release says that this service will only be available on the 6680 (which they don't have in stock right now, ahem!).
The thing is, the 6630 is exactly the same phone internally (isn't it?) so why wont they support that.

As it is, u need to download a java app to your 6680 to get the service so why not d/l the same app to a 6630?
Orange says, "no."

It seems to me that far from it being extra work to implement support of the 6630, these phones' identical functionality means that it would in fact be extra work to prevent access from a 6630 being available by default.

OK, in summary: New service launched 10 days ago; only 6680 allowed to use it; no 6680's available. 6630's can do the job but are barred from it.
Result = no service

erm... what was the press release all about Orange? It's not April 1st u know.

Can anyone shed any light on this?
Have I got my facts straight?

The two phones are similar but not identical. That is to say, there maybe underlying firmware differences that mean the application is not compatible.

I am unsure if the model of the phone is determined by browser message exchange or IMEI, but for sure when you logon to Orange World with a 6680 it knows what kind of phone it is and offers the application for download.

Even with the application downloaded on a 6630, you have to subscribe which takes you back to Orange World. Orange World would then almost certainly detect you do not have a 6680 and block the subscription.

I see no real technical reason for not making another version of the application available for the 6630 if it is needed but I would suggest there is a marketing reason for not doing so. i.e soft launch, controlled user base in early stages, roll-out for this 3G phone onwards rather than dev time on previous models.

I've been wondering this too...I'm going to see if I can find the Java app on my 6680 and install it on something else...
