Can't get XP Pro SP2 to connect with A1000

I've tried uninstalling the Desktop Suite and reinstalling before I connect the handset but it just times out. Control Panel => Connections => Desktop Suite is set to Link using: USB. I've tried using different USB ports as well.

When I first dock the handset (after the software installation) XP does it's thing and installs the mRouter and A1000. Then when I try to backup using the desktop suite it just tells me to connect the handset. Well.....it's already on the cradle. So I take it on and off the cradle....nothing.

I am using Desktop suite version 1.0.0.668 . I am in the US and got the phone off of ebay "unlocked" from 3 networks. I would post the firmware version but I can't locate it yet. Thanks for your time.

When I start the software suite something keeps it busy. I know this because the hourglass icon keeps flashing on and off after I initiate the software. I haven't had this box connected to the net for some time now (couple of months) but something is still making a call and it won't quit. Then I noticed that the mrouter exe in taskmanager kept flashing on and off "eureka!!". But after trying to catch it in task manager (it wouldn't stay still) and end tasking on it the problem still persisted.

So.......

I gave up on the USB idea and ordered a BT dongle. Same stuff though. So I'll just nuke and pave and get back with it later. The machine is probably compromised from my previous net usage. Ain't windoze great!?! So secure...... 🙄
