Hi everybody,
I recently bought a 512 MB SD card from Kingston (transfer rate was not specified but I think it's 2Mb/s). When I try to playback mp3 previously stored, almost any software (I've tried Mp3Player, UltraMP3, .... ) can't do the job and I ear crackling sound; the only thing that works is the built-in mp3 player, but it takes several seconds to switch between tracks or load a playlist.
Does anyone have the same problem? Do you think it could be solved with an Ultra II SD card (10Mb/s) ?
Card speed isn't usually a problem - if you're getting a crackling sound it's either your headphones which have gone or the bitrate of your MP3's isn't any good. May I suggest OGGplay?
As odd as it may sound, sometimes you can get crackling from an X if the bitrate of an MP3 file is too LOW!
I use 44KHz at 128bps and the sound quality is excellent 😊
Maybe I could not clarify the issue, I'm from Italy and my english is not as good as it should be. With the word "crackling" I mean that the playback isn't smooth and there are clicks and interruptions. Sometimes (I'm referring to ultramp3! and mp3player) the application hangs up and I have to kill it. The problem seems to be similar to this one:

I've tried Oggplay, it's good, buot for non-MMF phone mp3 isn't supported (If I'm not wrong).
I'm also sure that the bitrate is correct (192) and the earphones are ok, since the problem is independent from the output (stereo, sendo own speaker, ...)
I'm thinking about the possibility that my SD is damaged :frown:
No way, i had my SD replaced with a new one but the problem is still here. I even tried Oggplay but the playback is not fluid, music sounds like a scratched cd (if someone can't understad due to my english I'll try to explain better). The various programs are stored on the phone memory and the audio files on the card, what can I do? Am I the only one with this issue? Thanks!

I'm also using OggPlay installed on the phone memory and Ogg files stored on my SD card without any problems at all. My ogg files have been encoded at 64kbs with CDEx from the original CDs.
What you could do is:
- Check that your Ogg files play fine on your computer. They may be the cause of your problem
- double check that you have the latest firmware installed on your phone (the latest fw can be found here: http://sendo.com/Sendo/Support/Downloads.htm)
- double check that you have the latest version of OggPlay. You should have version 1.04 and not 1.00. This is the so-called unstable version but it contains fixes to make it work properly on the Sendo X and it works fine on mine.

Thanks for the advice, it was an encoding problem with ogg codec; now playback is smooth and the switching between tracks is fast as I expected it to be.
The only problem now is mp3 playback. Are you using the built-in player or another software? With the embedded player playback is good but every operations on files and playlist is endless. Ultramp3 and Mp3player (vikinggames) skips a lot! Any other suggestions? 🙄

Almost all third party MP3 players you mentioned above studder on the X. This problem is software related and has nothing to do with your SD card at all.
I dont' know why, but a alot programers are not able to code a sendo x compatible audio software 😃

Thank you very much for your answer! At least I know it's not me doing something wrong or dealing with bad hardware. I'll keep on testing new mp3 players, or wait for the new firmware... 🙄
I'm also a happy oggplay user. I can store up to 400 oggs on my sd card! 😃 Ofcourse you can try new mp3-players, but I think a software update from Sendo won't fix the problem. I've said it before, but it might be a solution to put at least series60 v2 on a future Sendo (x3?)device. My advice: Stick with Oggplay, works great.

You're right, it works great! The problem is 90% of the song you can find across the web or p2p are encoded in mp3 and converting from mp3 to ogg adds loss of audio quality. (Which methods do you use to transfer your songs in ogg? 😊 )
I use dBPowerAmp, with this tool you can convert virtually any format into another format. After you've installed the program, an extra bar in the properties section (right mouse click) will appear. So you only have to select your mp3's/wav's/..., right click your mouse and directly convert to the oggvorbis format. Good luck&enjoy!
i think the x speed is not very fast. so the sd card speed is nothing at all.
