Malicious Software and Phone Buying Advice Needed

Hi.

This is my first post here, so bare with me if its not entirely following standards yet 😉 (great forums, didnt know they existed...)

Firstly Im planning to buy a new phone in the next few days, and after a lot of research and budgeting, I think it comes down to the 6600 (im in south africa).
I don't really know how far outdated this phone is, or if its "ok" or whatever, but it is costing me R2000 and thats about my budget. Can anyone please advise me on this, if I am making a mistake, or suggest other better phones... (R2000 is alot to waste!)... other than that, the 6600 seems really suitable.(except for slow cpu)

Also, i have downloaded a rather large heap of series60/6600 software and themes from various unknown sources on the net. Whats the chances of these packages (mostly .sis) coudl contain malicious content? How would I know, and is it possible?

Thanks, I really hope you guys can assist me here...
Adios

Hi ... again...
thanks for al the responses! 😃

I have solved my phone problem by just buying a 6680...

I still have the problem of not knowing how clean my software is...

ie: have all the sis/jars that i collected over time, downloaded, I don't know which are which anymore, would like to somehow know, if they are safe...

so Im still looking for that answer...

thanks.
M

How are we suppose to know what software you have.

Just dl the trials, you'll have the latest versions, and buy if you like.

Otherwise, proceed at your own risk. 😉

Indeed yes, we're preety anti-warez here, so "heaps of software from dubious sources" is probably not going to get a whole lot of sympathy here. What I will say is at any time, if you dial *#7370# you'll wipe all teh information from a phone if you do get a malicious app
