6680 SMS Mysteriously Vanishing from MMC

14 replies · 3,066 views · Started 20 June 2005

I've recently got myself a 6680. On 2 occasions ALL my SMS/MMS messages have disappeared suddenly!!!
Both times the messages were set to store to the Memory Card (64 MB MMC).

Does anyone know of any data recovery software or any other way to recover the messages (or any data for that matter) either on the phone or PC using Memory Card Reader?

There was some very valuable information in some of the messages!

I would be very grateful for ANY help!!! 😊

Love the phone tho! Havin loads of fun with it!

Have you transfered them using lifeblog by any chance - lifeblog deletes everything once it transfers it unless you tag them to keep them as 'favourites'
Think this is catching out quite a lot of people with simular 'dissapearing data' type posts

...this happened to me as well. It was every time I turned the phone off, all mail and messages stored to the card would be erased!!!

Is there a fix for this?

Cheers
Nick

Do you guys have 'operator' customised phones or generic sim free?
My sim free phone has been just fine and dandy so far, fingers crossed!

I had it one time with photos disappearing in the gallery. I opened gallery, there was one photo (took it with cam) which couldn't be displayed. I erased it, got an error message and when gallery was reloading it was empty. Looked everywhere on the device for the pics but they were gone. Now i just use ProfiExplorer to send or look at my pics and never got problems again. 😊

I also have a generic sim free phone and have never had this problem

What firmware are you using. Mine is 2.04.15

I read in some forums (i forgot where though, i just typed in "nokia 6680 system error" in google) that the MMC is the cause of all the problems. Apparently, the original MMC that came from Nokia is defective in some way. My sms messages have also been erased twice, and also, i cant seem to see any of my images in the gallery (along with this, every time i try to use the camera, it says system error). But when i removed my MMC, i could use the camera again.

The suggestion to this problem is to buy an MMC reader and transfer the files that way (although i have never tried it hehe). I bought though a new MMC and so far, I havent had any problems whatsoever 😃

Hope this helps 😃

Hi,
well, i'm not angellove but can say that it really could be the memory card. Because i did not have any problem since i formatted my "myflash 256mb dv rs mmc" (for those who are interested in the brand) twice.

Hmm, As I said before, I've not had a single problem, thou the first thing I did with my phone was to put a bigger MMC card in, so I guess it could be Nokia's MMC.

I have it somewhere - I'll pop it in and have a play, see if it starts losing data..

I'm still using the original 64K MMC card. Waiting for my 512k card. No problems with original card. I transfer most of my data to MMC card with a Card Reader. I have used BT via PC though. I have not used PCSuite Though. I have Windows 98 on my PC.

Thanks for the replies so far guys!

My phone is an "operator" phone that has been customized. It's on Vodafone UK.

I've also got LIFEBLOG installed but i only installed it after the messages disappeared, in an order to save my messages in case it happens again!

I am also using MESSAGE STORER to backup the messages.
I'm not sure what version the firmware is. How do i find out?

My new memory card so far is good 😃 I havent had any problems and the brand is SAMSUNG. 😊 Hope this helps!
