Urgent Help Needed! - Serious Problem with Nokia MMC

hi symbian forums...
with so many experts on board, i was hoping you could all give me some help with some serious problems i'm having with my favourite new phone from nokia, the 6680.

1. after having various problems with my 6680, i've now ordered a new non-nokia MMC to replace the original. have any of you actually solved the problem of files being deleted 100% with a new non-nokia MMC?

2. also, i have an invisible jpeg (IOOS.jpg) in my image folder and every time i try to open an app where images are involved (sms, mms, gallery etc etc) the phone crashes... i don't know where this file came from but now my phone's gallery is inaccessible... file manager is the only programme that finds this file in heirarchical view but it cannot delete or edit it, file explorer and fexplorer cannot see or find this file. it is only visible in the menu when you are viewing the photos... how can i delete it?

3. last night i formatted the MMC through the phone menu, it went through the motions and then afterwards it was as if nothing had happened. ALL the data was still on the MMC and i could even restore the previous settings from the backup on there... very strange? is this a problem with the MMC or the phone?

4. my last question, is there any way to access the MMC over bluetooth on a mac? to transfer large amounts of photos or mp3s? i get a connection but no visible files/ folders with bluetooth utility.. i can only send single photos from gallery on phone to computer, i want to browse the files on the phone over my computer, how can i do this?

i really want to love this phone but only if it's a safe and reliable business tool...
roll on software update...i really hope that will make the difference..

inspite of this *problem* this phone is the best for me from nokia since years...
camera is very good, system speed is better than 6600, customisation possibilities are huge, hundreds of super apps out there, postcard tool on vodafone is great, customisable menu is super...all that's missing is a theme editor and a browser for mac...

any help or tips would be much appreciated! thanks in advance..

Although I'm not an expert (hehe, sorry), I've had the same problems and I think I can answer some of your questions based on my own personal experience 😃

1. Yes, I have solved the various problems I have been having with the Nokia-MMC by using a non-Nokia MMC 😊

2. i dont have this file in my 6680, so i dont know how to solve this one 😃

3. as can be verified in other forums, the Nokia MMC is the problem. it is defective in some way 😃

4. I dont use a Mac, but a PC and using the Nokia PC Suite, I can browse all the files in my phone 😃

Hope this helps!

hi Angelove, Many Thanks for your help.

Some questions remain unanswered, can anyone else help pls?

2) does anyone else know how to remove 'invisible no idea where it came from' files???
4) are there any MAC users out there who successfully mounted the MMC on the desktop via bluetooth or with the supplied cable (when i plug it in, nothing happens)
5) are there any volume control programmes out? i really miss a volume control..
6) after removing the MMC, i was amazed at the speed increase on the phone... Everything ran 200% faster... Now (i'm sure this is impossible) how can i get this speed with an MMC inserted? And, does the size of the MMC affect the speed of the phone? ie 128mb ok performance/ 512mb slower performance or does it make no difference?![/B]

NEW COVER? check here for various DIFFERENT colour covers for the 6680... 😊

i already tried that 😊 but thanks anyway...

can you get symbian oxygen phone manager as a sis file for series 60 phones?

using bluetooth browse window, i can drag and drop files to the 6680 now...

and with the new non-nokia mmc card, things are running much more smoothly.. 😊

thanks for your help...

Did you try to use a MMC card reader?
Or there are no devices like this available for MAC?

hi Juanm,

Thanks for your tip...
I don't have an MMC reader for Mac...
I want to use Bluetooth only.
I am always on the move so it's hard to take any extras with me...
But thanks for your advice.
Toby 😊
