Look at these success stories of developers using VB to develop for the Communicator 9210/9290 on Forum.Nokia. If they can use this product this well, then it will be great when we can do it for the 7650. http://www.forum.nokia.com/articles/symbian/AppForge_successstories.html

I asked about Series60 version and they said that they are made some discussions about it with Nokia but there is no decisions made.

You have notice also that you need to have their booster in your phone before you can run those programs made by it.

There used to be a PDF of MobileVB for the Series 60 with screen shots. After I emailed them about more info, the link was removed 😊 I dont know why but when I tried the link it game me an error! Lets hope they will do that for the Series 60! Fingers crossed!

One other interesting point. I have heard rumors that .NET Compact Framework will not support Smartphone 2002. Is it possible that Nokia Smartphones (Series 60) will have .NET support before Microsoft Smartphones?!? 😮

LOL, unlikely!

I agree that this is unlikely, but I've been unable to find ANYTHING on Microsoft or MSDN that say they are supporting Smartphone RSN. All I've been able to find is that .NET supportz PPC 2002, PPC Phone Edition, and Wince.NET.

Do you think that Sendo dropped Smartphone for this reason? With their Java license, they are clearly wanting to attract the most developers. Without .NET, this will be impossible. On Series 60, they'll get .NET AND Java! Who wouldn't want that?

.NET on series 60? Hmm..thats seems like an InternetExplorer download link on a Netscape web page! Everyhting can happen though!

I received an email from AppForge! They told me that they are discussing MobileVB for the Series60 with NOKIA but nothing has confirmed yet!

I think AppForge might be the first for .NET for Smartphone 2002! Check out this link: http://www.wirelesssoftware.info/show1news.php/736.html

I can't believe this article on wirelesssoftware.info 😮 I agree that Microsoft is making a big mistake by not supporting Smartphone with .NET.

Could AppForge (.NET) + Nokia Series 60 mean the end of MS Smartphone? Think about it: 80% of handset manufacturers, Java, .NET, millions of MS developers, the best apps, a stable software platform, and MMS!

I don't know if it will be the end of SmartPhone 2002 but Borland C++ Builder 6.0 Mobile edition will BE. Since a "light" version of the IDE and Series 60 SDK will be available free of charge from Nokia, we will see many apps popping out in the next few months.

Guess this is the final verdict here: http://www.wirelesssoftware.info/show1news.php/741.html

I am so happy about that. 😃

Who wanted to use that dummy .NET anyway? :-? I think many VC++ developers, very unhappy about that new and very difficult technology (.NET CF), will switch to Borland C++ or CodeWarior and Symbian, but not only for that but also for the fact that their software will reach mass market, i.e millions of end users. Think about: your will be able, at last, to show your mamma or girlfriend what you are doing, and to make a small programs specially made for her Series 60 phone 😊
