SMS Archiving on PC?

12 replies · 3,017 views · Started 06 November 2002

Hi all.

This has been mentioned by someone else, but there was no satisfactory resolution of the issue. This is one more attempt

Presently we can get the SMS transferred on to the pc only by way of backing up all the data (using PC suit).

There are applications available to read the messages on the pc(Communicator SMS Journal).

The problem is,

1. How do we get individual SMS onto the pc, as there is no forwarding option from the mailbox. Have tried using other applications like SeleQ, but none work. :-?

2. The export option on the SMS journal (in various formats) does'nt seem to do anything. There is no file saved an any format :-?

Any suggestion appreciated

Thanks

that is a great idea for a programmer.
Program that could combine SMS messages into one plain txt file and
send it to PC. And it could also delete messages by sender name.
That would be great.
Anybody?

Nice one Jyrik.
Infact..that would be even better we it would be transferring messages in text format, doing away with the translator application on pc alltogether. Also, sending notes, .txt to pc is so much easier.

So, basically, all we would need would be an application to copy SMS messages to the notepad. Is all. 😃

Any programmers hearing us??

Since I experimented with SMS I know that it doable! However, I havent got my phone back yet! Will try to do when I get it! I have RemoteCamera with multiple Images ready (I think) but havent had the chance to try it in real life!

I think the programmer of this app read this thread 😃
Now it seems to be possible, just as I suggested.

Hey,
Has anyone tried this program? The screenshots look really good though.... Anyone faced any problems?

Cheers
CJ

I have tried it. It does what it says. Its Good and Clean. But, since its only a trial, we have to first convert the messages to notes.
One issue i found is, the name name of the text files it gives to the messages (particularly SMS). They are all the same (something like =====.txt). This would cause it to be overwritten with the last file sent to PC, if they are not individually renamed or moved to another folder.

I have written to the programmer, suggesting modification so the txt files are named with the first 10 or 15 characters of the message. That would make them fairly unique and eliminate duplication, and hence overwriting of files.

😃 😃 😃

Yeah, it does that to my text files too, but its not much work to rename it on
PC after transfer.
Really great app. 😃

I just got a reply from Jari J.Laaksonen (Developer)

Here's an extract of the mail

"Hi!

Thanks for your comments about Message Saver. Here is my answer to your
suggestions:

That is actually a feature of Notepad: when you send Notepad memo,
it *really* generates the filename from first 20 characters of the
text. Now when Message Saver generates text for saving to Notepad
or sending, it adds a "tear line", i.e. =====================
When you have saved several messages from Message Saver, you have
several memos which all will generate same filename when sent from
Notepad.

The other problem is with your BT or IR software on your PC: if
it overwrites files without asking about duplicates, it is
seriously defective software.

With registered version of Message Saver this is not a problem,
because it will generate a real filename for sent file, not that
==============.txt. Once I get the product ready for purchace
on Handango, you will be happy (provided that you are willing to
buy it 😉

Stay tuned, and thanks,

Jari Laaksonen "

That was a quick response. Hope we will get to see the full version soon.
