Best 1GB SD Card?

18 replies · 3,324 views · Started 24 June 2005

I'm about to buy a 512MB or 1GB card for playing music on the Sendo. In the past, I've found Integral to be the best value. I've used Integral 32 & 128MB CF and 128MB SD cards and they've all worked fine. I've seen the Integral 1GB SD 66X for 54.

Has anyone had any problems with these? Are there better cards for around the same money?

TIA

A few months ago I bought a 1Gb SecureDigital SD card, and I must say...I love it! SecureDigital makes good stuff and I'd rather have SD over MMC. Right now I can store up to 400 oggs of music on my phone! How 😎 is that! I'd say, go with SecureDigital SD's.

I can't find any SD cards branded 'SecureDigital'. Do you have a link? How much did you pay? TIA.

Sorry dude, typo...what I meant was SanDisk's SecureDigital...(I always mix those names up... )I bought mine in HongKong for about 40
During a meeting with Sendo last year in August, one of Sendo's technical engineers told me that the following brands were ok tested on the X: Kodak, Kingston, SanDisk, Integral and Jenoptik.

All,

Thanks for the info. Sandisk and Lexar seem to be the most compatible and fastest, but also the most expensive, at least in the UK. It looks like the Integral is once again the best buy (faster than most and still one of the cheapest) for me. I know the 128 MB Integral works fine in the Sendo anyway 😊

Now we're at it, SanDisk launched it's 2Gb ultraII sd card. I'm wondering if the X supports higher (than 1Gb) capacity cards? Not only 2Gb cards but maybe future 4Gb cards?

http://www.mobymemory.com/HiSpeed_SD_Memory_Cards.asp says yes for 2GB, but has anyone actually tested one? IMHO I think that these are still too pricey, but if you buy one from a supplier that claims compatibility you can return it for refund if it doesn't work.

Does anyone know what data rate the Sendo can actually manage with an SD card? I prefer to buy higher speed cards as it seems more future-proof, but am I wasting my money? (At least with Integral you pay little extra for the 66x.)

Well, that's what mobymemory states. Last year, Gary Cooper from Sendo told me that they were busy testing higher capacity cards. So now I'm curious what they've been testing untill now.

I guess this is a matter of opinion. More space means more music, better quality, or both. I'm currently trying out various bit-rates for both MP3 and Ogg Vorbis to see what gives the best quality/size trade-off, but whatever I settle on, more space is better. After all, I think I'll probably put some eBooks on as well.

I recently tried an iPod (my GF's original 5 GB model) for the first time and was surprised by how good it feels to have that much choice of music.

Two more brands you can use: The Dane Elec 1Gb SD, and the Corsair 1Gb (40x) SD work fine in my sendo! 😊

You do not have to spend the extra money on buying a SD card rather than a cheaper MMC card since the Sendo X DOES NOT utilize the increased speed on SD cards compared to MMC cards!

So, buy a cheaper MMC card, lots of good brands out there. Personally I have tried both Sandisk and Twinmos without any problems.

I know that MMC is supposed to be cheaper than SD because of licensing, but I haven't found that in practice when looking for 1 GB cards.

As for speed, I expect to use any memory cards I buy in future devices that *can* exploit the extra speed.

Thanks, anyway.
