Q. What are the requirements for ICQ for the Nokia Communicator?

A. To run the new ICQ for the Nokia Communicator you will need the following:
The ICQ for the Nokia Communicator Ver.1.0 Beta file from the ICQ Download page . To upgrade ICQ you need to uninstall any previous version.
An ICQ # and password. If you have not already done so, you should register for ICQ from the ICQ website. To register, click here.


Q. How do I Install ICQ for the Nokia Communicator?

A. To install ICQ on your Nokia Communicator you need to:

Install the PC Suite for Nokia Communicator on your PC.
Connect the Nokia Communicator‘s adapter cable to the PC.
Verify that connection to the PC‘s port is active.
Access the http://www.icq.com/download/ site.
Follow these steps to install ICQ:

Select to download ICQ for the Nokia Communicator. Choose the Self-Extracting Installation option and save the SIS (Symbian Install file) on your PC.
Click the ICQ icon. The installation wizard will open, and an installation security warning displays. Click Install Anyway, then Next.
Select a language.
Select on which drive you want to make the installation. Installation of the ICQ files will begin.
Click Finish to close the installation wizard. ICQ will be added to the programs accessed via the Communicator‘s Extras application button.
Select ICQ. ICQ will open and you can login.


Q. How do I run ICQ on my Nokia Communicator?

A. After downloading the application, the ICQ Flower icon appears in the Nokia Communicator‘s Extras menu. Click on the icon to start the ICQ application and enter the Login screen.
The first time you login, you need to enter your ICQ number and password and select if you want the password remembered. If you have several ICQ user numbers, each time you can choose with which user number you will use to login by clicking the Change command key.
After entering the required details, press the Connect button to connect to ICQ. At the prompt, confirm your Internet connection details. Click OK to confirm and login.

Q. Can I create a new display name for a user on my Contact List?

A. Yes, you can. Simply follow the instructions below to rename a user on your Contact List. The new display name will appear only on your ICQ Contact List and will not change the user's details on their application or the ICQ network servers.

To rename a user:

Press the Menu key and select the Actions option.
Choose Rename User and then enter the new name.
Click Done to finish.


Q. How do I delete a user from my Contact List?

A. To delete a user:

Press the Menu key and select the Actions option.
Choose Delete User.
Click Yes.
Press the No command button to cancel the action and return to the Contact List display.


Q. How do I view online users only?

A. You may choose between viewing all users on your Contact List or only those that are online.

Press the Change view command button.
Select Show Offline.
Press the Change command button and select Yes or No.
Press OK to confirm.


Q. How can I search for users to add to my Contact List?

A. You may use the Search feature on ICQ for the Nokia Communicator to find ICQ users according to the following criteria:

ICQ number
E-mail address
Name (Nickname, First name, Last name, Online Only)
To search for a user:

Press the Find/Add Users command button.
Choose a search criteria and add the information to the form.
Press the Search command button to begin.
You can press the Esc button to leave the search form without completing the search process.

Q. What do I do once I have a list of users from a search?

A. Once the search has been completed, a list of users will appear, according to the criteria you have entered. At this point, you may perform a few tasks by pressing the command buttons to the right of the display:

Add User – Select the user you want to add to your Contact List, and press Add User.
User Info – Select a user and press User Info to view his/her user details.
New Search – Return to the search form and enter new criteria for another search.

Note: You can press the Esc button to leave the search form without completing the search process.

Q. I want to send SMS messages to a friend who is not an ICQ user. Can I add them to my Contact List?

A. Yes, you can! To add a Non-ICQ user, do the following:

Press the Menu key and select the Main option.
Choose Add Non-ICQ user.
Enter a Display Name and a Cellular (SMS) Number.
Press Done to add this user to your Contact List.
You can press the Esc button to leave the search form without completing the search process.


Q. How do I send an instant message?

A. To send a message:

Select a contact.
Tab to the message dialog frame and type your message.
Press the Send ICQ command button to send the message.


Q. How do I send an SMS message?

A. To send a SMS message:

Select a contact.
Tab to the message dialog frame and type your message.
Press the Send SMS command button to send the message.
Note: If you have not already input an SMS number for the user, you will be prompted to enter one.

Q. How do I receive messages?

A. You will be notified of incoming messages by the message sender‘s name flashing in the upper right hand corner of the screen. To retrieve the message, click the command button next to the contact name. ICQ for the Nokia Communicator will only be able to receive messages and not other events, such as Contacts, URLs and Files.

Q. How can I view details about users on my Contact List?

A. The details provided by ICQ users are listed on the ICQ directories. You can view the details of a user on your Nokia Communicator.

To view details for a user on your Contact List:
Select a contact.
Press the User Info command button.
Press the Esc button to return to the Contact List without making any changes.


Q. How do I view my own User Details?

A. To view your User Details:
Press the Menu key and select the Main option.
Choose View/Change My Details.
You can change or add to the details you provide.
Press Update to save the changes.
Press the Esc button to return to the Contact List display without making any changes.
Note: You are not able to update your age from your handheld device. Your age can be updated from the ICQ Meet People or from the ICQ software available on the windows or Mac operating system (for example ICQ 2001b).

Information you do provide will be published on the ICQ directories and will be visible to, and may be obtained by, ICQ and Internet users.

Q. Can I view and update details from somewhere other than my Nokia Communicator?

A. You can view and update your user profile, and view the profiles of other users, by visiting the ICQ Meet People directory and performing a search. To go to the Meet People directory, click here.

Talking about messaging, is there anything for AOL/AIM messaging?

ICQ.com have had that 9210 comming soon for about as long as i have had my 9210.:cry:
IM+ or was it +IM does AOL as well and well most others. Though i only use ICQ and NICQ since the memory it uses is far less then +IM.

Well guess i can eat my words.
Been playing with ICQ by ICQ this moring.
Very nice i must say.
One or two things i think they will improve on.
