6680 on orange new themes ?

11 replies · 3,765 views · Started 26 June 2005

im new to all this stuff so excuse my ignorance...

i have 2 6680's with orange the annoying thing is there is a screen it goes back to all the time with contact, recent calls, sms, calendar ect down the left hand side. There is also a horrid orange background picture which i really want to change

however even when you change the theme you still get this horrid looking orange screen all the time.

Is this something orange have decided to make its customers live with or can you change it somehow ?

thanks

There is no way to remove this branding from Orange devices.

The device would have to be flashed (p/s reloaded) with generic firmware, Nokia CNSP's do not allow this.

I sent back my Orange 6680 because of this branding.

It is annoying! So I went and got one on three instead.

The only way to see your themes properly is to hold the menu key and select "telephone." But everytime you hit the red button or exit the menu it goes back to the orange homepage.

Drove me MAD! I lasted a week before I sent it back for a refund. Thank god for the Orange 14-Day money back guarantee!

...surely there must be a way to overwrite this picture with another?? Could soeone figure out where it is stored to do this...

...please...

i suspected this may have been the case...

what is it with orange they have to even put their own orabge logo on each phone.

they are obsesed

Oh you can change the wallpaper to any image you want. The option is there. It's just you can't see the theme wallpaper on the main orange homepage.

Even if you set the theme to use default it doesn't come up, and when you restart the phone it resets the theme wallpaper to whatever wallpaper you have defined for the Orange homepage.

You can definately change it thou.

I have looked at this....I couldnt get rid of it. Everytime I closed the process "homescreen" it opened back up again... I couldn't edit or over right the *.ini files which control it....The only way is to change the ROM which is flashed during the upgrade of firmware...this is not allowed or possible..😉

Do you mean the Orange background on the main phone screen with the icons doen the left hand side?

Its changeable, I changed mine the day I got the phone.

I changed the rest using a new theme so when i hold down the blue key and select phone I don't get the orange branding there either.

To be honest the removal of the horrible bright orange front screen made the icons down the side far less offensive and I actually discovered that I quite like them now.

I think initially I rebelled when i opened the box and though wot the french connection! A bright orange screen with another bright orange screen and a bright orange screensaver!!!! Nooooooooooooooo...and then 10 mins later, a new theme, a pic of my dog and screensaver changed.

Bliss.

But this doesn't deny the fact that Orange, (in conjunction with Nokia may I add) have destroyed a workable UI. As i have wrote in another reply about his topic

They have taken away functionally away from it. For example.

To go to contacts on the 6630, was a simple click of the joypad. 6680 two clicks.

To open a new message from an unlocked state, 6630 one button press. 6680 5 button presses.

Themes don't work as well on the 6630

I consider myself to be an advanced user of series 60 phones, I do not need to be 'pacified' by Orange on how to use there phone.

If this state of affairs must continue then please allow the option to turn it off.

I'm not suggesting you need pacified, I commented purely about myself and no-one else.

I agree there should be a way to turn it off but from what I have seen users of 3 and Vodafone all have gripes about the phone for one reason or another, I suspect O2 users will too at some point. We all have friends on different telecoms operators and i can say hand on heart I have heard complaints about them all.

Telecoms operators do not want a perfect product otherwise why would anyone upgrade, yes for new functionality but often people get frustrated with things that aren't quite right.

I spotted in another thread that Nokia have dumbed down part of the phone from the internet sharing side, so they're as guilty as anyone else I suppose. Other manufacturers are the same.

Maybe its all a conspiracy to keep us buying new phones....no wait...they wouldn't be that clever.....

...just in case anyone wants to know, in another thread I was helped out with the wallpaper issue...

...on the Orange homescreen scroll up twice to the camera icon...here there is an option to select background - select this and then browse to the image you want to use for the wallpaper...

...hope this helps...

Does anyone know a service centre type place that can flash the 'unbranded' original 6680 software on 6680's - the Orange software is a joke. You can assign functions to the central softkey in the menu but what do you know? That's right - they don't work from the front page because of that stupid bloody Orange front screen.

Anyone know a service centre that will unbrand?
