i wanna buy a new s60 system handset.
sendo x or sx1? pls give me some advice.
i find many ppl said the mic is not very good. have serious problem!
and the sendo x only 4MB of free RAM for applications to run in. very small.
what about sx1?

if i had the chance i would not waste 400 euros on the x again! the mic really sucks, i have to open up the phone every week, clean the mic and put the damn phone back together
also when i lose network sometimes i have to restart the phone to find network again. the reception with my old nokia was a zillion times better than that
if u can live with these two major flaws then go for the x, it looks nice and stuff
but to be honest i'd say there are other better phones out on the market than the shitty ass x with the more shittier ass mic!
That's quite a generalisation, boogie - there are thousands of people out there who DON'T have the mic problem. The X is quite an old phone and my personal beef is with the OS.
My advice is to either wait for the X2 or go for the 6680, if RAM is important for you.

What gives with the mic? How does it get so dirty that it needs cleaning? And how does a bit of dirt affect it so much?

The mic design is the real flaw, not the mic itself. It does not require cleaning, it requires a relocation. Check out this forum for "hardware changes"
.

So it's the contacts that need cleaning? At least the non-hard-wired design means that the mic can be replaced without a soldering iron if it comes to that. 😊
But the ts could still use some advice. As mentioned before, it's not that all X's have the mic problem. A major flaw in my opinion is the choice of the os version and the very low mb's of free ram. I don't understand why Sendo stayed with the same os version on the X2. A big plus is the fact that there is more free ram.
The sx1 has similar specifications as the X, so if you want to buy a new Symbian device then wait for the X2 (if you don't mind the relative old os version) or go with a Nokia.

I confirm that. No problems with my mic so far.

Agree with all that too except that from what i've read in some forums, the 6680 doesn't seem to have that much more RAM available than the X. Ive read that it had 5MB of free RAM or so. My X has 4.1 - 4.2 MB of free RAM after a reboot. The 6680 has a much newer OS though which is definitively a big plus compared to the X and X2 but what bothers me the most with Nokia phones is the ridiculously small amount of built-in memory for applications. The 6680 is not that bad with 10MB but it's still a bit short and, depending on how you use your phonem, you'll probably have to store some apps on a memory card which is a hassle when you've got several cards, forcing you to swap cards over and over again. The 32MB of the X is a major advantage here, allowing you to store all the applications on the phone and use memory cards only for games, music files and documents in general.
tks all
the 4MB of free RAM is not enough to run same games. is it possible to make our RAM biger?
'Fraid not. There has been some speculation that future firmware upgrades may free up more ram but I wouldn't put money on it. The X2 is rumoured to have 7Mb of RAM.

Only 7MB? My X2 has well over that... 😊
Oh, and here's the revised menu graphics, and one of the new themes, for those who may be interested:
😮 wow...
Now will you guys believe what I've been telling you for months?

I have to ask: given that memory is so cheap these days, why not give the X2 a decent amount of RAM, say 32MB? Increasing it to only 20 seems a like missed opportunity. :frown:
The memory on the X2 hasn't been changed since X. All that has altered is the amount of RAM needed by the phone when it's running. If you look on an X, the total RAM number will be basically the same.

RAM for a PC may be cheap, where there are loads of people making it, and it's all the same design of slot, etc.
RAM for miniature devices, like phones, handheld PC's, MP3 players, etc, is CUSTOM size to be small, fast, less power consuming, better heat dispresion, etc.
Actually, looking again at your mail, you may now realise this yourself - since when is 20MB RAM a STANDARD figure? 16MB / 32MB / 64MB / etc is normal...

My X shows Total RAM 13824K.
Anyway, back to the original topic of this thread.
Firstly, the SX1 is a great phone - I have one too.
It can be flashed like an X, it has ejectable cards like an X (although only MMC ones, not SD too). It has more free RAM, which is good, I have to say. It can use loads of Symbian games/apps, like the X (although some JAVA ones will not work properly, due to colour issues - we fixed that for the X 😊.
It does have a weird keypad however, which I am told, does get easier to use over time. As mentioned by someone else, the free disk is only 4MB, which is low compared to an X, meaning you will need to load more onto the card, which can be annoying. It is thinner, just, but quite a bit wider. The speaker is not as loud as the one(s) on the X.
They are both cheap on e-bay, so grab one of each, then sell the one you don't like 😃

Maybe they ARE std size, 16, 32, etc., but the rest is reserved for system use and hidden from the user?
If you do the conversion from KB into MB etc. then I *think* you'll find that the "missing" space is what's taken up by the phone's ROM drive.
