New firmware + OggPlay

25 replies · 4,321 views · Started 30 June 2005

Installed the new firmware and then put the old version back on :frown:
OggPlay doesn't seem to change tracks properly with the new firmware. Sometimes the next track starts playing after 5-10 seconds, sometimes it doesn't start playing at all 😮

Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

I have the same problem with 1.05 unstable release. (Tried also with 1.02 released for a similar bug on Sendo X with previous firmware).
As you said, if you switch between tracks during playback, the new track starts skipping or you can ear it after a few seconds.

The problem doesn't occur if you stop the playback, choose another track and then start playing it. If I play all the titles in my playlist transitions between tracks are smooth too.

Due to the fact that I use oggplay while I drive, this isn't a major problem but... 🙄

Same here. The app froze as soon as the track ended. Up/down scrolling didn't work. Now. I have the Rt Key configured as "Stop" in play mode and "Exit" otherwise. Pressing the Stop key unfroze the app and I was able to select the next track manually.

Will post more info once I get some time to play with it.

Cheers,
Keith

I had this problem before the firmware update - there's a couple of other apps I'm keen to try out with my new *eXpansys* phone.

I had this problem with the old firwmare when using the stable release. The unstable release worked fine. The new firmware seems to have broken the fix for this problem in the unstable release. Pepe's trick works fine though so this is not that problematic.

On the other hand, i have the impression that multi-tasking while playing a Ogg file has been noticeably improved with the new firwmare. Before, even locking and unlocking the keypad caused stuttering and cuts in the sound. Now, even if you write an SMS while listening to music, it's almost perfect. Still a small sound cut sometimes when switching to another application but it seems to me to be much better than before.

:icon14: It works. Thanks a lot. I've had to restart my phone though since after having installed the new version the problem was still there but after a reboot, it was gone 😊

Since you are here, may i ask you what causes those sounds problem in the X? I mean, what in the code did you change to make Oggplay work properly with the old and the new X firmware? Just that i can be careful and know what's the proper way of doing things if i ever want to add some sound in a Symbian app.

Well we use the audio streaming API (CMdaAudioOutputStream) for playback. The problem is that on non MMF phones audio playback is handled by a different process from the application. This causes problems because sometimes the audio process doesn't get enough CPU power. What I've done is put some extra delays in that are designed to give the audio process a bit more access to the CPU. You can take a look at the code if you want it's all hosted on SourceForge.

The new release is better than the previous one, but a little bug is still here. I mean that when a track is being played, if you scroll to another track and then press play again the new track doesn't start from the beginnig but from a variable amount of seconds forward

I had this problem too at first with the new version but just restart your phone and it should work perfectly.

Mmhh... very strange, oggplay behaves in the same way I described before. Any suggestion? (I've already uninstalled/reinstalled the latest version)

Strange indeed. I've installed OggPlay on the phone memory while the Ogg files (64kps) are on my SD card and it's all working fine just as it was with the old firmware. Would you have it installed on the memory card by any chance?

Sorry but my english is far from perfect... With "Would you have it installed on the memory card by any chance?" you mean "Have you accidentally installed oggplay on your SD" or that you want me to try that?

Anyway, I tought it could be the bitrate of my songs, so I tested it with 128, 96 and 64 Kbps (all CBR). I've ripped a CD and encoded songs with dbpoweramp and dedicated ogg plugin (songs in winamp+plugins are perfect): the result (even if it's a bit better with 64kbps songs) is the same, if i switch between songs while playback is still going the next track starts at 00:10 seconds insted of from the beginning...

If you want me to try something I'm here and ready. Thanks!!

Hi Peppe, I would install OggPlay on the phone memory ( C: ) and put your ogg files on the memory card ( E: ). That works fine for me.

It's possible that the problem also depends on what model of phone you have, is your SendoX a UK version?

I don't think so, I bought it in Italy. Is there a way to identify it?

Oggplay definitely not working for me with new firmware (gprs fixed one); Tried everything that was suggested and a couple of other things, but switching between tracks on the fly is impossible. Thank you all anyway!

Let me know if it's any better.

Ok I've found the bug! First of all thank you for creating a new release just for me, I really appreciate it.

The problem I described in this thread disappears if I change the behaviour of the right soft key in play mode: if (at least on my phone) the value "Exit" is set, then next track skips 5-10 seconds (no matther if you use joystick or hotkeys); if I change it to any other option (Pause,Back,Stop) everything works fine!

Thank you again!! :icon14:

fig7 wrote:There is a new release, 1.0.7, that should fix the problem, even when the right softkey is set to "Exit"

Ehm... sorry, but i haven't understand what the "Recognizer.s60.sis" is for... 🙄

If you install it, the phone will recognise the .ogg files in your file manager or in other programs.

So if i installed a previous version i don't need it... It's clear! 😎
