Is mine the only X that will not upgrade ?

18 replies · 2,887 views · Started 01 July 2005

I cannot upgrade the firmware on my X.

The phone is currently running the Vodaphone version of 1.95.5.2 (8Y0H-01172-4X000).

I downloaded the Expansys version of the new firmware, put the phone in download mode and connected to my PC. The Sendo is recognised and drivers installed with the animated icon on the phone showing two green plugs. When I click Continue to install I get a quick flash screen saying not to use the phone, the phone icon begins to animate with a red dot in the cable but I instantly get a download error message. The same thing happens with different versions of the firmware and with a different PCs, and the cable works happily with PC Connect. I tried a hard rest before flashing but get the same result.

I have come to the conclusion I have only phone in the world that cannot be upgraded!

Does the phone work normally when you're not trying to flash it?

Have you un-installed every non-standard theme?

If so, then I would try to re-flash it with it's existing firmware first to see if it will take that.

Phone has been working fine not a single crash in the 2 months I've had it. I get the same error -

***DOWNLOAD FAILED***

Download error has been encountered, please disconnect and reconnect the cable from your Sendo X Smartphone and press Continue to try again.
Make sure your Sendo X Smartphone is in download mode.

- when I tried to reflash with the existing firmware. Did a hard reset first so there should be nothing on there to cause a problem.

Simw,

I'm having exactly the same symptoms as you.

The only difference being I've started with the previous Expansys firmware upgrade.

If you get any joy, let me know.

The only way to get it out of download mode (pre or post [attempted] flash) is by taking the battery out - should that not be case ?

Yes, works fine

Replying to my own post - bad form.

I have now pretty much elimated everything to account for the problem other than the software on the phone. (Yes, I am using the correct driver and I asssme the cable is OK since PC connect works perfectly).

My question is, is there some sort of uber software reset I can do - or is turning the phone on while holding 5 as uber as it gets ?

Pressing 5 is as "uber" as it gets.

Just so I'm still clear on this... does the upgrade program recognise the phone is connected (i.e. have you installed the upgrade USB drivers (these are different from the ones needed for pcConnect))

I am using the drivers that are bundled with the download program - the program recognises the phone (you get a different error message with no phone attached) and the animated icon on the phone shows two green plugs. These plugs change colour (black/red) when there is no connection. The downloads stops within 1 sec. and gives an error, interestingly the phone momentarily disconnect then reconnects after the error messages comes up.

Looks like I am going to have to live the old firmware - over which I have no complaints by the way, so no real hardship.

It *sounds* like the phone is not accepting the firmware because of an SPN mis-match; however, this shouldn't happen on the 1.198.8.2 firmware, as they're all SPN unlocked.

It would be interesting to see if your phone will let you re-flash the 1.98.5.2 Vodafone firmware...

Thanks,

I tried that at your suggestion last week - I get exactly the same error trying to re-flash 1.98.5.2.

Sorry, I'm forgetting what I've already said now... 😞

Your SPN number is definitely a Voda UK handset, so it *should* work fine with the Voda release of 60D (1.98.5.2) - the 78F++ releases (1.198.8.2) are all SPN unlocked, so again it *should* work with any of those firmwares.

I'll have a look into this and see if there's any possible work arounds (I know of one, but don't know if it will be possible to get it to you)

One last thing - do you live in the UK (and could you possibly get to London sometime)?

I had the same problem with the Expansys firmware upgrade. Dont get the update from sendosmartphones.com , but instead get it from Sendo's own website under the updates section.
They have one that is specifically for Vodafone. And it works fine. Also you have to clear the memory (hold down the 5 key when starting) before it all works fine.

The firmwares on Sendo's website are NOT the same versions as we have on SendoSmartphones.com - we are the ONLY website to have the latest 1.198.8.2 firmwares. (the ones on Sendo's website are 1.98.5.2)

The Expansys firmware we have on our site has been extensively tested with Vodafone handsets and is working fine on all the one's we've tried. The only difference between the various firmwares we have is what langauages they support.

I 'm sorry you are right on the sendo website its says

Phone Software Updates
(Current:Version: X.1.198.8.2 78 - 30.7 MBytes)

but when you click the link the dropdown ones just say 1.198.5.2. I guess I'll give the Expansys one another try.

as some backup data - one voda and one expansys flashed with the latest uk firmware (from the ss site), both took it just fine and are humming right along.

I tried the expansys one again and it seems to work fine, just as long as you clear your memory on the first startup. Other Apps seem to be working better too now.
