Now! screen bug in new firwmware, is it just me?

Hi,

I have mentionned in another thread a quite annoying bug in the Now! screen that appeared with the new firmware. Basically, if you add more than 29 links to symbian apps (it doesn't seem to do it with links to Java apps), the Now! goes mad on the following reboot and enters an infinite loop of flickering and freezing. Removing some of the links from the C:\System\favourites folder so that the total number of Symbian apps links is under 30 solves the problem.

More details in my post here: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showpost.php?p=232160&postcount=7

So, am i the only one to have noticed this bug or are others experiencing the same problem? Even though this bug is not as bad as the GPRS bug, it effectively makes the Now! screen a lot less useful. It seems strange to me that nobody mentionned this problem before so it may be a problem with my particular setup although i can't see what's wrong with my system.

29 items in your favourites?

Actually, it seems to be just you - I've now got 37 items in my favourites and Now! is fine after a reboot.

Right, thanks, so there's maybe hope for me here. As i said though, it doesn't happen with every kind of items but only with links to Symbian apps. Links to Java apps or Web/WAP pages don't seems to cause any problems so far.

If you go to the C:\System\favourites folder, you'll see files such as WAP.lnk or TaskSpy.lnk. These are links to Symbian apps. You'll also see files with strange names that don't seem to make any sense; these are links to Java apps. Could you or somebody else confirm that you've got more that 29 files with their name under the form AppName.lnk in this folder with the Now! screen still booting fine? That would be of great help to me to try to figure out what my problem is.

Cheers

This Now! screen problem is still there for me with the updated firmware although the symptoms are different.

If i add 15 or so application links in the Now! screen (i don't actually add those links to any pane, i just use the Options -> Application Link command to add them to the App Links list that you can see in the pane settings), there is no problem: if i reboot the phone, the Now! screen starts fine.

I have then tried to add a few more links. At the end, i had 39 application links in there. Rebooted the phone and i was welcomed with a "App closed Now!" message :frown: Pressing the Menu key resulted in the Now! restarting fine but the status bar at the top of the screen remained blank. Rebooting the phone again resulted in the same problem.

As before, deleting all the links from the C:\System\favourites folder solved the problem. But this means that i can not use the Now! screen anymore :frown: It seems that i am the only one having this problem so i guess that reformating the phone and reinstalling all the applications manually should solve the problem but i just don't have the time to do that now. Too bad, i'll just do with the traditional menu system then...

Sorry, wrong forum. We're not discussing the Nokia 6670 here (does that phone even exist anyway?)
