N7710 Vs N9500

Hi folks.

Tell me, being a lowly N9500 user, is the speed of the N7710 any worse than the N9500?

I would seriously doubt this as the N9500 is pretty slow when it comes down to it. The applications crash just as frequently, the web browser is particularly shoddy. The phone takes foreeeeeeeeeever to start up. The music player is horrible. The camera is barely up to VGA standard. The video suck. Real Player sucks. Even less apps are available. It weigs 230-odd gramms. Log errors are rife. And the list goes on and on.

So tell me, as users of the N7710, are these any lesser problems than those of the N9500?

I work for the leading cellular network in South-Afrika called VODACOM. That being that I have access to all the latest firmware as soon as they become available, and the errors I mention above are with the latest firmware: v4.51(00) 14-12-2004.

Any one want to swop?

Funny that I have the same firmware version and no such problems with my 9500... I don't find it slow, there are much more apps for S80 than for S90, the music player is basic - OggPlay is better, I don't care about the camera - but it is OK for VGA , Real Player sucks yes - but there are several alternatives available.

Granted, yes, but compared to other communicator style phones (P910i, Ipaq, Imate) the N9500 is a snail.Have you used the N7710?

Compared to the Pxxx I think the speed is about the same. The 9500 is a bit faster at some things, and the P is a bit faster at some other things, but generally they're about the same from my experience. As for PPCs - they use a very different memory structure, so there is no point adding them into the comparison.

And no, sorry, I haven't used the 7710 yet, but the speed should be about the same as the 9500 as they use the same processor and a similar UI.

Ok, but. Working in telekoms, i work with many phones a day. I see people on a daily basis who have the same phones but who have very different experiences with their phones. I think that the 7710 is no different.

Sure, the release firmware was sh*t, but that would have been fixed with newer version.

And yes, on paper the Pxxx and N9300/N9500 are the same but I have intensively used both, and I would say that there is a big difference.

I would actually love to see a comparison between the N7710 and P910i.

Sorry, I hit the Edit button by mistake earlier. Fixed it now.

As have I and I haven't found much difference. Because the 9500 has more free RAM, multitasking is better - so I'd say the 9500 has an advantage in working speed.

The only thing that is a bit slower on the 9500 is opening closed applications, but that is not a problem as it has plenty of RAM to keep most apps open all the time.

Ok, so it has a working advantage. But it I take the amount of interface I need to click through on either a P910 or N9500 to change a simple thing like a ringtone...

Sure, the P910i is faster in that but the N9500 is just plain tedious:
tools>cpanel>telephone>profile settings>general>

Its rediculous

(PS, when did this become a N9500 vs PXXX discussion 😊 )

I don't see what's so tedious about that. A ringtone isn't normally something a Communicator user cares about changing all the time anyway.

I used a P800 and a P900 every day for about 1.5 years, and now use a 9300 and 9500 for about 6 months, and find the 9x00 much easier to navigate even though it doesn't have a touch screen. And that is mostly due to the S80 UI (which I think is excellent). As with every new device it has a learning curve. You have to really learn how to use it to get the most out of it. Once you learn the UI and memorise the keyboard shortcuts, working with the device is smooth as can be, in my opinion anyway.

Or anytime, anywhere: press Menu, navigate to the last menu item (Profile icon) - General - Edit. No need to open Control Panel. And if you want to cut down navigation, then first press Menu, then 9 (it jumps automatically to Profiles).

Look, al things considered, both the P910i and the N9500 are good phones and both have an equal amount of interface to get through. What this post was really about, is the following:

N7710 users are complaining that the N7710 is slow and crashes and what not. My argument was that the same thing happens with the N9500, as stated in the opening of this post.

Yes, RAVEN, your N9500 may not have those problems, just as some N7710 users dont have any of the recorded problems with their N7710s. But I HAVE those problems, and I just want to point that out to the N7710 users.

The grass isn't allways greener on the other side.
