Hi to everyone of registered users of this site...
I have nokia 6680 mobile phone of '3' network service.. i want to unlock it and i want to take it to india for my use.
so if any one have the solution of this mobile unlocking procedure, please send it to me...
Thanks to everyone...
The solution is to call '3' and ask for an unlocking code (and pay whatever they want for that). Or you can buy an unlocked/retail version, instead.
Now, '3' could also have a roaming agreement with Indian operators, so the phone would work there as-is.
Note also that unlocking devices under contract is illegal in some countries (e.g., the UK, I believe). And this forum's policy regarding illegal activities is here: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/faq.php?faq=faq_rules#faq_rules

Unlocking mobile phones to use with other network SIMs is NOT illegal in the UK - FACT

This actually raises an interesting point in the UK and that is the network Three's apparent 'hold' over retailers wanting to unlock Three locked mobiles. Many just won't touch them as they say it will jepordise their relationship with Three. I know there is some legislation out there covering the modification of mobile phones. Its basis is to lower mobile phone thefts by making it illegal to remove the bars by changing the IMEI of the phone.
It is however as Cyberkid states NOT illegal to remove a sim lock from a mobile phone in the UK or the USA. Some country's have different rules infact its not allowed to lock a phone in either Finland or Belgum. However if you live in Hungary your phone is locked for its lifetime.
As for Three's attitude there may possibly be something in their contract TnC's that make unlocking the phone by any other means than through Three (and paying their exhorbitant fee) a breach of contract.

I think you are misunderstood on this unlocking business.
Three have no more hold over the retailers then any other network. Unlocking phones and modifing them are two different subjects and you dont need to change the IMEI to unlock them, thats to do with unblocking and not unlocking. All networks have a vested interest in their phones and thats why most of them lock them so you cant just pop another network sim in the phone and then they lose revenue.
You have got the phone cheap in the first place so if you don't like it you should pay a few hundred pounds extra and buy one SIM free. You cant expect everything can you - ie buy a 6630 on Three with heavy discount and cheap calls and get the phone unlocked for 115 OR buy one SIM free for 250+ and then find an equally good contract. Its a no brainer really.

Actually I think you misunderstand my grasp of the unlocking business.
I state in my post that IMEI modification is for unblocking phones and is illegal -
' know there is some legislation out there covering the modification of mobile phones. Its basis is to lower mobile phone thefts by making it illegal to remove the bars by changing the IMEI of the phone.'
Thus I know the difference between the two ta very much!!!
Three DO have some sort of hold over retailers offering phone unlocking services as a number of retailers have told me that they will not unlock Three mobiles due to Three threatening to cancel their contracts with them if they do. There are also UK based unlocking websites that state they WILL NOT unlock Three branded mobiles to work with any other sim card. Thus there must be a reason behind it.
As for the part about buying a sim free phone etc for a few hundred pounds or just pay Three their price to unlock well why should I? (and I wasnt complaining just pointing out some facts) Vodafone's contracts are pretty much as good value as Three now and I am sure they have just as much as a vested interest in revinue as Three yet they still only charge 15 pounds to unlock their mobiles.
Three struggle with customer image as it is and frankly they are not doing themselves any favors when they continue to treat their customers so differently to the other (now catching up) 3G uk providers.

You are definitly not aware of the unlocking of the 6630/6680 and in particular Three locked ones. The reason the retailers will not unlock them is because they can't - its as simple as that.
The only people who can unlock a Three badged 6630 is Three - no websites, no retailers no one except Three so how can they have a hold on anybody. Its the same with Vodafone ones - the only people who can get the codes and unlock it are Vodafone and their approved dealers who have access to the datadbase with the codes. Same with Orange and T-Mobile - no retailers or websites can or will unclok them as its just NOT possible at the moment.
Have you not read the other well know forums and usergroups - ie uk.telecom.mobile or http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum//forum/thread/23428/
If you state your theory on their you will be in for some serious stick. Its now well know about unlocking the new Nokia BB5 platform phones.

I am not getting into this with you as you have totally misread what I said. I was talking about THREE and unlocking PHONES......not 6630/6680 just a general comment on the way that Three charge more to unlock their phones than other networks, and some websites will not unlock ANY Three phone. It was a point to raise a discussion on Three and unlocking generally not just limited to the 6630/6680.
And as for stating my theory (ie that Three do prevent retailers from unlocking their phones ,notice I said phones) on a forum such as the 3G forums well no I wouldnt bother discussing anything there as its a forum that doesnt like any free discussion and readily just deletes and even has mods pre reading posts before they are posted. Not a forum where free speech or discussion is encouraged so no I wont visit there.

I have never found that to be the case whatsoever apart from morons who come on with abuse. The usergroups are not edited either.
