Contacts gone

ok, got the following going on...

I was so happily updating my Firmware to xx.xx.8.2
But it didn't work out well, the Now Screen kept crashing O_o

So I tried it with a fresh install (5 key format)
Put back backup and it worked! Untill the next reboot and Now kept crashing.

So had no choice but to go back to xx.xx.5.2
Format with 5, downgrade Firmware. Put back Backup.

But now my contacts are gone 😞

Messages are there
Calendar entries as well.

But my contacts! Q_Q

Calendar entries wouldn't be a big deal as I've got them in Outlook aswell.
Messages are ok.
But my contacts... :'(

So how do I get back my contacts....I've tried flashing back 8.2 etc but it doesn't work.
Anyway of extracting them out of the backup file Backup.arc?
I do hope they're actually saved in the file...

*bump*

I transferred the backup.arc to my laptop and tried to open it, but ofc that doesn't work.

Maybe one of the developers might be able to help me?

As far as I know, it's not possible to get specific items out of the backup file.

Do you not have a sync'd copy of your contacts on your PC anywhere?

When you restored your backup on the new firmware, were the contacts there? If so, then you should maybe try to solve the Now! screen crash problem rather than trying to downgrade to the old firmware since there you can't get your contacts on the old one:

1) format the phone
2) install new firmware
3) format phone again
4) boot the phone
5) restore your backup
6) make sure that you don't have any themes installed
7) Use a file explorer utility such as FExplorer and navigate to the C:\System\apps\Now\ folder. Delete the PaneSettings.ini and Wallpaper.ini files
8) Without exiting your file explorer, navigate to the C:\System\favourites\ folder. Delete all the files that are in this folder
9) Remove the battery (do not switch off the phone in the proper way as Now! would restore the bogus data it has in memory)
10) Once the screen has switched off completely, replace the battery and boot your phone normally. Hopefully, the problems should be gone.

Hi,

When you say "tried flashing back 8.2 etc but it doesn't work" what exactly do you mean? What doesn't work?

I have flashed backwards and forwards 100's of times, and got data back OK.

Go back to the version the backup was taken on.
Restore the backup.
SYNC the contacts, etc to OUTLOOK - create a new profile/folder if you do not want to mix them up with your standard Outlook ones.
Re-flash the phone to the latest firmware (after removing themes, etc)
Sync back contacts, etc

That has worked 100% for me before.

pk

All doesn't work somehow.

But I got my contacts back by synching it with my outdated Outlook contacts then adding the missing contacts myself. I'm sure I've missed some but it's better then nothing ^^

Thanks for the help.

*takes note: synch your phone more regurlarly*
