Oh hum, one lesson i learnt over night which i'd like to warn others about. And that is using your MMC card in your PC, more over using a certain program called defrag 😡
Last night i copied some files to the card as its the quickest way for me and they went on fine as they always have, then out of i dont know what, call it being tidy i chose to defragment the MMC card, OOPPSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
oh dear did it all go down hill from here 😞 First off everything looked fine, that was until i got a text message this morning, i went to reply and the message came back as read again. I have my messages all on the MMC, nothing i could do would sort this out, so i could not send any messages.
So turned off phone and back on to see if thats all it was and next thing? All messages had gone, but it was ok, the phone had changed to using its memory. 😮 Now i was getting worried, ran the MSGdriveE program and it crashed, OH SHHHHHHHHhhh!!!
Something i had done had just knackered the card, ok back into pc with card and back it up, all files copied off and put card back in phone for a reformat, nope, not having it either, double shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put card back in PC and format, something i dident really want to try but i was out of options, had copied basic files like system folder back to card and put in phone.....
Well the programs at least worked, but the messages seemed to be in the phone still 😞 So run MSGdriveE and this time it worked, restart phone and no messages, OK, where are my messages to.
Look at backup, NONE, the whole lot where gone, no problem, nothing important really, email settings, and other things had also gone, but the rest of the card seemed fine.
I'v since tested my messaging and its all correct and working, got my email settings back and copied all my other files back to the card.
What i think might have caused all this maybe because of the HOT pluggable option of this phone for the MMC, when i defragged the card its layout changed and the phone failed to see this when i put it back in.
So whats the one rule here? DONT HOT PLUG!!!!!!!!!! This is not the first time i'v known something like this to happen, needless to say i will not be attempting a defrag on a card again, just in case it did more than it should of.
Either way the FAT system should of coped with the card being removed and reinserted and it should of detected and refreshed itself accordingly, so hence i wonder is this a little bit of a bug in the HOT plugability.
Anyway, all's ok now, but for anyone reading, please becarefull with your cards, i'v done this for years so i know all my options, a newbie might not and anything special might be at risk.
