Upgrade to new firmware V5.22 in US

I bought my communicator in indonesia, and i already tried call the nokia customer service for firmware upgrade but they said that i cant upgrade my firmware in US since i bought my communicator in indonesia.

Does anybody know where i can upgrade the firmware in US?
will it give me any problem if i upgrade a communicator from indonesia in US? T.T

A few days ago (07/15/05) Nokia told me that 4.51 is the most current US version available (not including internal beta testing versions).

Bought my 9500 in the middle east and when i was in singapore, i asked nokia service center if they can upgrade my firmware and they said that they can only upgrade phones bought in singapore due to some firmware difference, they claim that they can try but there is a chance that they might 'kill' the phone. I'm now in australia and hoping to find any way to upgrade the firmware w/o going back to the middle east. appreciate any help.

Hi,

I need 5.22 to enable some of the remote provisioning for some IBM Mobility Software. Talk to any service centre in the UK and they will tell you it is 4.53 and nothing else exists... ask nokia help via the forum and they say 5.22 is available...

Has to be the worst service I have seen. I had it "upgraded" 3 times before they admitted they did not know what they were doing!

I could ship it to IBM in the US to one of our labs, but that would void the warranty

I have the UK version of the 9500, but live in the US.
I ordered it unlocked online and am really happy with it but was annoyed when I discovered it has 4.44 (REALLY old) firmware, despite I just got it last week! Grrrr!
(I am considering complaining to the place I bought it but not sure if I have a leg to stand on).

Anyway I called Nokia US about firmware upgrade, and as soon as they found out it was the UK version, they refused to help.

I contacted Nokia UK, and they gave me the number of a UK service centre. LUCKILY I am going to the UK next week for a couple of days so hopefully I can get the FW upgraded there....

I've read the list of what's new/changed in v5.22 and nothing particularly leaps out at me that makes me rush out and attempt to get my 9300 upgraded.

But I was wondering if someone who has gone from a previous firmware version (especially v4.53) to 5.22 can give an idea of what the noticeable differences are when using the communicator day to day.

For example, I'm wondering if 'Calendar speed improvement' is noticeable (both when using 'Calendar' and when using other Calendaring apps i.e. PowerDesk and AquaCalendar). If so, by how much.

Also, what other changes are noticable and make you glad you upgraded (if any)?

Thanks.

The phone is MUCH faster, applications load alot snappier and switching between them is also much faster. You also get a small blue progress bar at the bottom of the pda screen when the phone is booting so you know how far its got. I would seriously recommend the upgrade if for nothing else just the speed increase is worth it.

The calendar is faster, noticably faster IMHO.

Thanks, that's interesting to hear.

Is that speed increase using the inbuilt 'Calendar' app or also using other Calendaring apps?

What was involved with the upgrade? How long did it take, was all your data unaffected? Did you have to backup first and restore afterward?

Just the calendar application itself, I do not use any 'third-party' extensions to calendar. So for me the standard calendar is way faster than before.

What was involved, me going to my local service centre (in leeds uk) after backing up my data to the mmc (did a full backup) they flashed it to the latest firmware whilst I waited, took about 20mins. After that I did a full restore and got all my messages/contacts/calendar/application back 😊

Thanks - now I'm tempted to get it done, especially as I'm in the UK too (I hadn't heard anyone say it was available in the UK yet).

V5.22 doesn't work on the Nokia 9500,

Well, it did for me,

Over 2 hours at my local repair centre,

Best they can do at the moe, is V4.51 :frown:

They've got 2 find out why and maybe try again with 5.22,

Carl,

RadioPhone services in leeds upgraded mine. Tel number is 01132635988, they did my previous flash upgrade aswell. Good guys, know what there doing, if u're ever in leeds pay them a visit, they do sit and wait aswell, so long as ure there nice and early i.e before half 9

I tried very hard about 2 weeks ago... a sorry tale couldn't get it upgraded

I noticed two things with v5.22

1. When you open a SMS message and reply to the message, it goes first to the
message screen before it pops the actual message reply composition. I dont
recall this on v4.51 because replying was faster
2. Also, no improvement on the recepient search or opening of contact
database when composing a new SMS message
