X irda illuminated while charging!!

11 replies · 3,843 views · Started 21 July 2005

hello everyone,
i have the latest firmware from sendosmartphone expansys with the gprs bug fix, i have noticed that the black glass on the left side top side the irda communication area a red light is illuminated while charging and after full recharge the battery drains faster if you do not turn irda from the connect menu with turns the light off. can someone explain me on this ...

I have a red light on in the infra red window all the time. I can't get it off! My battery time is a max of 8 hours and is often less!

How do you turn yours off?

I now count 2 of us with this problem. Does anyone know a way to fix it?

sorry if this is a repeat - but did you flash to the new firmware, then do a pwr-5 reset a few times after?

what has worked for me in the past with other issues is to remove all cards (SIM and MMC/SD), format the phone, flash the phone, format again, flash again, then format a few more times for good measure. seems like a lot to do, but worked for me - never had this problem, but worked to resolve others.

Just to let you know I also have the issue with the IRDA on all the time now.

I updated to the lates firmware and all was going well. Only yesterday I noticed that my phone had just turned off and I'd just charged it not long ago - so I turned it on and the battery indicator was totally flat. I also felt the phone was a bit warm which made me think that I had the IRDA issue with the light. In work here, I couldn't see as it's quite bright, but when I got home I noticed I have the light on all the time.

When I try to use the Infra red option in the menu it says "Infra Red Activated" - even thought he light was already on.

When I try to reaccess it - it says "Infrared Already In Use" - It never turns off...

I was wondering if there was a system process for the Infra Red, so I used Task Spy but I couldn't see any meaningful names in there...maybe if one exists, we could try killing the process to see if that does the trick...

In the meantime I haven't tried any reflashing or anything, so I'll give that a blast and let you's know how I get on...!

This is a valid theory. But mine comes on as soon as the phone comes on and in the modes where it doesn't boot up fully (like formatting or SW update mode). So it would have to be a process in the very beginning of the boot sequence...

EDIT: When turning the phone on, the red light comes on before the LCD backlight! And when turning the phone off, the red light goes off after the LCD backlight!

So this red light is on more than the LCD backlight! If it is a process at fault it is a very major one!

I am glad it isn't just me! There are like 4 or 5 of us with this problem now - hopefully it is a software problem and I don't have to get a new phone just yet 😊

I'm posting this here for completeness - it's a duplicate of my post on this topic: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/39506/#post234930#post234930

"I tried to do the following:

"Backup the handset to PC or card (just to make sure)
Sync the phone's calendar / contacts to your PC
Reformat the phone by pressing 5
Re-flash with the 1.98.5.2 firmware
Reformat the phone by pressing 5"

I formatted and installed update 1.98.5.2 - but when I try to turn the phone on while pressing 5 to reformat and this is what I get:

- Black screen with white sendo logo as usual
- screen goes red for about 5 seconds
- screen goes white for a couple of seconds
- phone turns off.

I'm able to start the phone up as usual without pressing 5, but the red light in the IRDA port still shines and it feels warm...

I'll try the next update (the one with the dodgt GPRS) and keep you's posted..."

hi guys, i believe that the new firmware has messed up the hardware. as stu guide me with flashing and formatting back and forth and syncing no luck, all the symtom are the same as mine. even most of the time when you get ready to flash by pressing * and power on, then also that darn red light turns on. i have tried it when it was not on but still after a successful flash and format it turns on right back.

We've had thousands of downloads of the latest firmware, and only a few of you are having this problem. I have been unable to replicate this fault on any of my handsets, and I know it's not affecting the majority of users.

It would be very useful to be able to test one of the handsets which is doing this, if anyone can get down to London next Saturday...

Hello All,
I am also facing the same problem of red light :frown: . My mobile was working fine for last 1 week. Now suddenly today I see the the red light lit up on my mobile.
This is what happened today. May be it helps to trace the issue
1) I formatted my memory card using my PC.I used my memory card in my camcorder and then again put it back in the mobile phone.I formatted it again in the phone. It was getting hanged when I was removing / putting memory card , which never use to happen before.
2) My friend was playing with my mobile phone .After seeing the history , I saw that he used applications like camera, camcorder , pinball , etc. Also he turned on the bluetooth.

I removed the battery and connected only the charger , the red light was on.When I removed the charger , the light went off.
