Question on Firmware

12 replies · 2,765 views · Started 27 July 2005

Hi All,
I have recently bought a SENDO X here in India. It has some old firmware.
It shows following information in the about box
X1.63.1.2
Release IG
4-sep-2004
SPN:0000-00000-00000
IG: Vodafone UK 1.11

It looks like unlocked Vodafone to me.
I want to install a new firmware. But from the posts that I have been reading in this forum , it looks like it is not safe for me to install the new firmware considering that there wont be any service center here that can fix the phone if something wrong happens in the installtion process. :frown:
Can somebody suggest if it is safe to do this installtion. If yes then considering the above release information suggest a suitable firmware. Please give the url of the firmware and the exact process to install.
Thanks,

Mangal,
Before you flash the phone, please ensure that the battery is FULLY charged before you begin. You can obtain the latest voda firmware from sendosmartphones.com in the download section. the site is currently down due to some fiber damage at the ISP at the moment. check back later today and you should be ok.

there is no reason not to flash the phone - it will not damage it unless your battery is not fully charged and/or the phone becomes dosconnected from the cable during the flash.

good luck.

It is safe to install the latest firmwares. Very few people have had any issues with getting the firmwares to load. (maybe 10 issues out of the 1500 + downloads we've had)

Grab the latest firmwares off http://www.sendosmartphones.com (you may want to wait till later today, as our ISP is having problems right now) and install whichever version you want. All the firmwares are unlocked to work on ANY phone.

Just make sure you follow the rules!

1) Delete ALL themes / fonts you have installed on your phone
2) Select the Curves theme as your default
3) Backup your phone to memory card / PC
4) Reboot your phone while holding down the 5 key to reformat it
5) Update to new firmware release
6) Reboot your phone while holding down the 5 key to reformat it
7) Restore your data to your phone

It takes about 20 minutes to un-install the themes, back up the phone, re-format it, flash the firmware, re-re-format it, then restore your data.

All very painless!

Just DON'T touch the phone while it's updating (don't want to risk dislodging the cable), and DO make sure your battery is full!

Thanks once again ... But I am scared as I said there is no service station here...I will try ..not immediately but may be after some days.

Are steps 4 & 6 always essential? If so, then it is somewhat poor that the the Sendo updater doesn't mention them when you are running it!

Step 6 is very important with this firmware. 4 is preferable. (and it only takes a couple of minutes to do them)

step 6 is important ..coz at times the phone may behave strangely if its not done...better to format the phone again after flashing it

Hello All,
I finally installed the new firmware. As metioned by Stuart the process was painless except when I tried to restore my backed up settings. It started giving errors "APP Closed ...." . I reformatted the mobile and every thing is working fine now with the new firmware. I would like to thank eveyone especially Stuart for helping me out. :icon14:

Hi Shaggy,
Check the SendoSmartphones website.I had posted a similar question there. See "Vodafone Sendo X upgrade to latest Expansys firmware ..." under the support section.
