Opera on 3 uk

This may be something to do with 3's Walled Garden approach. You can play with anything inside the garden, but you're not allowed out.

In other words, you can't access anything on the public internet.

Yup, exactly right, 3 don't allow anyone to browse outside their WAP service. This strikes me as probably the stupidest thing ever on a 3G phone 🙄

My suspicion is that they do not have anything in place to bill for data usage. They can bill for video calls on the basis of call duration and I'm not sure on whether they charge for data useage on WAP, or whether they charge you for the content you download instead.

According to the guys in my local Carphone Warehouse 3 should now be allowing clients to browse outside the Walled Garden however you need to contact 3 and ask for specific permission to do this... oh and the data charges are meant to be truely extortionate. They were a little shaky about the details but if they're not doing it yet then they will be soon.

Along with this I understand 3 block the data profile on thier Bluetooth enabled phones.

True - 3 have opened their walled garden, but not quite as carphone warehouse state.
They have only opened their walled garden to selected websites authorised by 3.
I know as our company are one of the first to have our website 'allowed' by 3.
What a fiasco it was too, they crawl all over the site vetting and dictating how and what they want on there - in the end we gave it a total redesign and gave 3 their own version of our site to meet their demands. Now it just looks like an extension of their own '3' homepage layout and format but with our content.
So althouth the walled garden has indeed come down - the surfer is STILL restricted to only surfing to sites 3 want them to surf too.
