Nokia 9500 help - activating the speakerphone during a voice call

When the phone is open, I obviously want to use the speakerphone/loudspeaker to hear the caller's voice. At present, the phone is just using the earpiece (on the cover phone) when producing the audio; I know this sounds stupid, but how do I turn on the speakerphone? It already works as default for things like the music player, but for the life of me I can't seem to find how to activate it for all voice calls. Help!

No, when I flip it open it still sounds very faint and comes out of the cover phone earpiece, not the speaker. The phone was bought in the Middle East (perfectly legit), so I was wondering if this could make any difference?

No, the speaker is supposed to come on by itself whenever you open the phone without a head-set connected to it. This is so with all versions - including the ones sold in the middle east.

Are you certain that the sound is turned up? Otherwise it might be a job for the repair shop, I'm afraid... :dong:

Never had to do it myself but I think the volume is controlled using the joystick when the phone is open - worth a try.

When I use the joystick, it only alters the earpiece volume (cover phone) and doesn't bring on or turn up the speaker. :dong:

Is it worth taking it into a local Nokia shop then?

I'm no expert but it sounds like your phone thinks the earpiece is plugged in. Is the earpiece/handsfree icon displayed on the front (phone) screen?

If so, I'd say it needs checking by an engineer. If not, apart from re-booting the phone (battery out for a few seconds) I don't know what to suggest.

I the same problem with mine. My flip would be open and it wouldn't activate the speaker. All I did was reboot the phone and it sorted it out.
