Vodafone GPRS & POP3 / SMTP Access

Hi Guys

I have a 9500 on Vodafone. and I have managed to send and receive emails using POP3 and SMTP via the WiFi connetion both at home and when roaming using the EasyWLAN feature (including abroad)

However, when using Vodafone GPRS, I can only receive emails and have been unable to send emails via GPRS with the error "Message sending filed. Check your e-mail settings.".

Has anyone go this to work? Is this a Vodafone issue? Are they blocking certain ports? I don't thing this is an authenticated SMTP issues as I am using a different email provider to my ISP at home and I don't get these issues when roaming via WiFi.

Grateful for any help.

Hi

Have exactly the same setup (9500 & Voda) and this works perfectly for me: In Messaging, press Shift+Ctrl+T to get into Account Settings. Find your email account, press Enter, change to Server tab and set Outgoing e-mail server to send.vodafone.net . Leave Incoming set as your usual POP3 server. No SMTP authentication.

Good luck!

Hi Mosgeo

Thanks for your reply. This does then sound like Vodafone aren't allowing outbound SMTP traffic. I was trying to avoid using the Vodafone mail relay because if a mail recipient uses a reverse lookup before receiving email, then the message will be refused. This is because the sender does not match the domain and hence it would be regarded as spam. This practise is quite common place.

However, I guess this is better than nothing.
