Ebook reader and ReaderM not working

I'm pretty happy with my 3230, sure there are some niggly issues and MP3 playback isn't great but thats why every man and his dog has an iPod these days.

To pass the time on the ferry home I'd like to read some ebooks in various formats: .txt .pdb etc.

I downloaded and installed 2 free applications: Ebook version 3 (http://www.geocities.com/ebooknokia/download.html) and ReaderM. However neither of them seem to open at all. I open the application and it pauses and then goes straight back to the menu. Not having used ebooks on my mobile before I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I also installed the great little FExplorer application and have put a couple of ebooks in a new folder in the root level of my MMS card. Do the files need to reside in a particular directory for the applications to find them? But the programs aren't even launching. What's going on? Anyone used any ebook readers on their 3230?
