Nokia 6630 wallpaper problem

I used symbian device before (siemens sx1) so I have some wallpapers in regular sizes (176x132). But when I set them as wallpapers in 6630 they look blurred and darker than normal. When the're shown in Gallery, they look awesome. But as wallpapers...terrible.
What is the problem, do you know? And the cure?

Use a good image editor (e.g., Jasc Paint Shop Pro, or something similar) on a PC to make them 176x144 there, before copying over to the phone.

The phone's resize/resampling routines aren not as good as what such a specialized app is capable of.

I'm a little confused here. On my 6630, the wallpaper images supplied are 176 by 143 pixels. i.e. one missing 8-) And surely the earlier SX-1 would also have been standard Series 60 resolution and not 176 by 132?

Anyone got some definitive details here? Maybe the SX-1 was non-standard?
