I never thought I would live to see this day, when Samsung actually starts to sell a series 60 phone. Totally unnoticed by journalists, phone and gadget websites, Samsung officially announced on July 26th that the D720 AND the (until now only rumored) D730 will become available in August (of 2005 I hope), at least for the german market.
As I said: unbelievable.

Not quite so. Both models were announced by Samsung in the 3GSM World Congress in February (and both have been featured, with pictures, in Samsung's brochures since then).
The D730 is now listed on the Series 60 Website but strangely the D720 is not.
Glad to see that it looks as if these will finally make it to the market.
Now to try and get through to Samsung PR again, and attempt to explain what we do...<cries>.
Call me Mr Cynic, but I doubt these will either. I don't know if anyone looked at the specs for the D720, but it doesn't have Bluetooth and uses OS 6.1. This makes it a pretty poor smartphone in my book, although I don't know enough about the D730 to pass comment (other than it looks pretty ugly - clamshells should not be oval.).
Well I've just noticed that the D720 has now also been posted on the Series 60 Website. According to the site both the D720 and D730 have Bluetooth.
I just wonder when/if they will get a full UK release as the Panasonic X700 and X800 seem to be conspicuous by their absence on the highstreet.
Both the D720 and D730 are Symbian OS 7.0s and Series 60 2nd Edition, Feature Pack 1 devices (like 7610, 6670, 6260 or 3230 from Nokia). And as far as I know, both have Bluetooth, too. (They are essentially the same phones with different form-factors, much like the Nokia 6260 and 3230.)
Has anaybody seen a real device in a shop or on an operators website?
New word from Samsung: D730 to ship in 2-3 weeks. D720 "probably in September or October" 😞
No......must...fight...feeling of...deja-vu....
Does anyone else remember how long the D710 was on the Expansys site for before eventually deciding to cancel them. Until I'm actually holding either a D720 or D730 in my hand, I'm not believing a word of it.
