"start up fail - contact retaler"
i tried to connect it to the pc so that i could use pc suit to delet data the device is not recognized by the computer there fore it could not cnnect.

some one plz help me because there is no cutomer care center in my part of the world (Ghana - West Africa)

Try a hard reset

Switch off the phone.
1.Hold down the following three buttons: Green (call answer) button, * button, and '3' button
2.While holding these buttons, press the power button and switch on the phone
3.When the message 'Formatting' appears on the screen, release all of the buttons

Note that you shouldn't switch the phone off or remove the battery when performing either of these operations, and it's advised that the handset has a reasonable amount of battery charge before performing a format/reset.

Be aware that the battery is full and you completely finish this action. Remember that you lose all data and settings.

i have tried it and it worked except that formating did not apear and that it started up just as it does wen there was no problem with it just a few seconds.
thank you once again.

I used this process as my Nokia 6680 on the Orange network in the UK also had memory problems and wouldnt even let me send an sms message! After the full restart it still said 'low memory, delete some data' however I can use most of the functions. It should be noted that before doing the full reset to use the 'content copier' function of the Nokia PC Suite as this saves absolultely everything off your phone and allows you to restore it all back once the reset is completed.

There two most problem related with memory:

1. "Memory low, delete some data".

This mean that u've too many data (file/folder) in ur C/D drive so u must move them to MMC or delete. Just don't let ur C drive only has under 1mb space left.
The unecessary data usually are the picture msg, background images (usually they're stays in ROM. So if u reformat phone, they will back), logs, messaging (inbox, outbox, sent folder, my folder etc).

2. "Memory low, close some applications".

This mean that u've too many application opened or running in the background on phone.
Hold the menu key to see if there any app still opened. Switch into it the press "C" key to close it.
Use TaskSpy to "Compress memory", see hidding process running in the background then find something unecessary then kill the process. BTW, the default process it should be "Telephone, Menu, SysAp, AutoLock, Contacts, Log, ScreenSaver, PhoneBook etc.". Most of them running from ROM (Z: drive). U shouldn't delete them. The process that u've to kill are related with ur 3rd party app installed.

Hope this help 😉

on first & 2nd try on the hard reset (3 keys - *, green button & 3) nothing happened. on the 3rd try everything was fixed. what a miracle....hehehehe

It's not 3+green+* but "green+*+3". U can also try Soft Reset 😊
I guess that u're very happy right now?

How do you check what is being used in the phone ROM memory? I've had the phone for a week now, and loaded everthing onto a new 512mb mmc, so there should be nothing at all in the phone's memory.

But I still get messages saying that memory is low. I've gone into File Manager and looked at contents of all the folders on the internal memory and it is all empty.

Other than a hard reset, what else can I do to free up the memory?

cheers.

Aha - just sorted my own problem - it was messages that were taking up more than 8mb of memory!

When I first got the phone, I zapped a load of apps and games via BT to the phone, and these were still in the inbox.

When I scrolled down to Tools - File Manager - Phone Memory, the last item on the list was messages, and this was then showing up as using up loads of space, so deleted all the messages ! Its ok now!
